On the final play, Don Fambrough and Red Ettinger opened a terrific hole in the right side of the Missouri line and Griffith went through untouched. Kansas stifled the Missouri attack for the final 65 seconds. Kansas held the edge in every department of the final statistics except yards lost on penalties. The Jayhawkers picked up 21 first downs to Missouri's 18 and outgained the Tigers on the ground and in the air. Fambrough and Otto Schnellbacher, Kansas co-captains, won the toss and elected to receive. Carras kicked off from the north 40-yard line and Schnellbacher ran the ball back from the Kansas 30 to the 39. Kansas struck swiftly with Ray Evans skirting right end on the first play for 22 yards and a first down on the Missouri 39. Frank Pattee hit left tackle for three, and Evans passed to Schnellbacher who carried to the 21. Bud French hit guard to the 20 and Missouri called time. Pattee bucked the line for five, but French and Evans were stopped on the four. Pattee got two on the left side, but Missouri took over on the two. Day's punt hit a Missouri man on the nine, and Kansas took the ball there. Evans Fires To French On the first play, Evans faked a pass to Schnellbacher and rifled one to French in the end zone. Fambrough's place kick was wide to the left. Kansas got in trouble on the kickoff, as two out-of-bounds boots by Evans, sandwiching a five-yard penalty on Missouri, gave the Tigers the ball on the Kansas 45. Carras went around the right end for seven, and Brazzell hit for four and a first down. Missouri was set back to the 49 by a holding penalty, but Carras went around right end to the 22. Brazzell passed incomplete, and Entsminger carried to the 15 in two tries. Bounds dropped Entsminger's pass and K. U. took over. Tigers Move Ahead A holding penalty put Kansas on the four, and Pattee kicked out. After Brazzell lost three to the 38, Entsminger passed to him for a first down on the 22. On the next play Brazzell leaped high to fire one to Bounds in the end zone. Dawson's kick gave Missouri a 7-6 lead. Tom Scott returned Wright's kick-off to the 30. Griffith carried over left guard for 15. Evans' pass was incomplete, and Franch carried for four. Another Evans pass sailed through Schnellbacher's hands, and Scott kicked to the 15. Bonnett and Carras each got five. Bonnett lost four, but Entsinger picked up eight. Carras lost four, and Day kicked to Evans who returned the ball to the 34. Evans passed over the line to Schnellbacher who lateralled to McNutt for 15 vards. An Evans pass was incomplete, and Evans picked up eight through guard as the quarter ended, with Missouri leading 7 to 6. Second Quarter Griffith hit guard for seven and a first down on the 15. Griffith again carried, to the six. French dove over the line for a yard, and Evans added three. Griffith's yard gave Kansas a first down on the four. Griffith bucked to the two, and Evans went over for the second Kansas touchdown. Fambrough's kick was perfect, and the Jayhawkers led. 13 to 7. Entsminger took Evans' kickoff deep in his end zone and ran to the 20. Carras went for seven around end, but an illegal lateral subtracted five. Quirk carried for seven, and Carras got a first down. Braznell picked up two, and Carras went 15 yards to the Missouri 48. Evans knocked down Englert's pass. Carras bucked for two, and Entsminger, trapped on a pass play, ran for nine. A K. U. holding penalty moved the ball back to the 50, first down. Carras Adds Another Entsminger hit left tackle for four, and Carras hit there for 13. Evans knocked down Englert's pass, but Entsminger threw to Armstrong for a first down on the five. Entsminger carried to the three, and three plays later, Carras squeezed over with a score. Dawson kicked the point and Missouri led, 14 to 13. French ran Wright's kickoff back 19 yards to the 37. Evans' pass was incomplete and Griffith gained five in two plays. Pattee kicked to the 20. West returning to the 32. Bonnett gained eight in two plays, but Entsminger's pass was batted down and Day kicked to the 32, out of bounds. With about a minute left, Kansas opened up a passing attack. Evans' first almost intercepted, and Griffith carried twice around end, gaining 30 yards. Another Evans pass was incomplete and McNutt fumbled, recovering for a four-yard loss. Evans hit French for 16, and missed Schnellbacher. With only two second remaining, Evans faded to midfield and threw to Hogan on the two. Hogan drove severately, but West and Bonen- stopped him on one and the half ended. Missouri led. 14 to 13. Third Quarter Evans' kickoff carried to the one, and Carras returned it to the eight. Entsminger failed to gain, and Day went deep in punt formation. Day laked a kick and threw to Armstrong on the 28. Braznell picked up 23 in two plays, and Carras added two. Entsminger was trapped on a pass and Fambrough brought him down for a 15-yard loss. Small almost caught Carras deep, but he ran 19 yards to the Kansas 43. Entsminger fumbled, losing two, and Day kicked to the Kansas eight, Red Hogan returning to the 20. Pattee got four, Evans two, and Hogan threw to Small for 13. Dick Bertuzzi hit guard for 5, but Pattee lost three. Evans' pass was incomplete and Pattee kicked to West who returned it to the 34. Volz got four on his only carry of the day. Start March On Nine Missouri got three first downs on three plays as Entsminger, Carras, and Braznell carried for 12, 13, and 12. Entsminger was stopped on a fourth try, and Carras was thrown for a five-yard loss. Hoyt Baker knocked down Entsminger's pass, and Day kicked out on the nine. Kansas started a march, with Evans and Pattee doing the leg work. Evans picked up three, Pattee two. Griffith hand-fought a blocker halfway across the field and brought down Carras with a shoesstring tackle. The gain was three yards, and Kansas to the bail on the six. Kansas Drives To Score In 17 plays, Kansas drove for a touchdown. Evans went around end for two, and Griffith made 13. Bertuzzi made three, and Evans added another pair. Hogan passed incomplete, but a Hogan-to-Evans handoff to Griffith went for nine. Griffith hit left guard for six and a first down on the 47. Evans carried twice into the line for seven. Evans faded and bulleted one into French's hands on the 14, French cutting back to the eight. French made a spectacular catch of the pass, taking it over his right shoulder. Griffith took over, and scored on the fourth line play. Fambrough and Ettinger were hurt on the play but Fambrough went back to kick a perfect extra point. The score, Kansas 20, Missouri 14. Hulse returned the kickoff to the 20. Entsinger's first pass was incomplete, and he was swarmed for a three-yard loss before he could throw the second. Bounds caught a third toss for a six-yard gain, but the game ended before he could get up. Fans swarmed onto the field, as the gun sounded. Glenn Davis Is Guest On WREN Interview Glenn Davis, one of the famed Army Touchdown Twins," was Max Falkenstien's guest on a half-time interview over WREN at the Missouri-Kansas game Saturday. Davis said midwestern football compares very favorably with the eastern brand, and also predicted a Kansas victory because the Jayhawkers were "more aggressive."
