KANSAS PAGE NINE 21 Building Additions Help Handle Swelling Enrollment Since the end of the war thousands of veterans have enrolled at the University to swell the enrollment to a record 9,500. To provide classrooms, office space, laboratories, and housing for these students, 21 building additions have been made. Most of them are completed and in use. Some are permanent and some temporary. 32 Buildings at Sunvyside The first to be started was the Sunnyside housing addition, which has 32 buildings containing 186 housing units. Each housing unit is a two-bedroom apartment and is occupied by a married student or a faculty member and his family. Sunnyside is located south of the campus, running from behind the power plant, the entire length of the campus to Marvin hall. It is landscaped and is an attractive addition to the campus. West of Memorial stadium Oread hall, a two-story structure which houses 160 men. $4 Live. Under Stadium. 64 Live Under Stadium Rooms for 64 men students have been built beneath the stadium. This addition is known as McCook hall and is permanent. Behind Lindley hall on the south side and the extreme west end of the campus, stands Lindley annex. Original plans called for this building to be used as a cafeteria, but it now contains architecture offices, Even the Lawrence police can't forget Der Fucher. 'They Got Charges They Ain't Even Used Yet' A poster on the wall of the police station reads: "Adolf Schickigruber, alias Hitler. Continuing east from the intramural gymnassium, a warehouse has been built. North of this warehouse stands a garage which houses army equipment. Behind the greenhouses and west of the power plant is a 25 by 150 feet temporary frame structure, used for psychology and bacteriology experimental laboratories. Blake annex, which stands south of Blake hall and directly west of the chancellor's home, houses physics labs. Although plans are not yet complete, there will soon be a new permanent addition to Watkins Memorial hospital. Plans will be drawn by the architect who designed the original building. Watson Wings for Offices, Storage Two new wings to Watson library are under construction. The west wing will be a large reading room and will contain library offices while the east wing will be for book storage. On the north side of the Union a $100,000 addition is near completion. It will house a finely furnished dining room and kitchen facilities. The roof will serve as an outdoor dance floor. The foundation is built to stand up under any further additions that are made on top of the present one. A quonset hut behind Bailey Chemistry laboratories provides laboratory space for graduate students. Cluster of Five Annex A cluster of temporary buildings stands north of Frank Strong hall. These five buildings are known as Frank Strong annexes. Annex "A" is a quosset hut which serves as a library and a reading room. Annex "B" is the name of the guidance bureau. Annex "C" is probably the busiest building on the campus. It houses the veterans' bureau and the Western Civilian offices. Annex "D" is used for secretarial training. Two-story Annex "E," the largest of the five, houses various classrooms and the sociology department offices. Schopeple will attend the game with five members of the board of regents. They are Alvin McCoy, Dr. L. B. Spake, Oscar Stauffer, Jerry Driscoll and Drawe McLaughlin. The state legislature will be represented by Paul Wunsch, Kingman, and Riley McGregor, Medicine Lodge, both state senators. Representatives Blake Williamson, Kansas City, Kan., and C. H. Mullen, will be present. Newspaper Men From K. C. Roy Roberts, owner and publisher of the Kansas City Star, will bring a car load of newspaper executives to the game. Other alumni who will attend are Clark Tucker, mayor of Kansas City, Kan; Wayne McCoy, Topeka, president of the K. U. alumni association; Carl Winsor, Wichita, member of board of directors of K. Executive committee members are Joan Rettig, national secretary; David Savory, national treasurer; Kenneth Beck, executive chairman, and Catherine Jarboe, national publicity chairman. The University of Beyrouth in Syria, and Oxford university in England, have written to Moore concerning membership in the association. The operating committees are informing universities over the country of the activities of the organization, which will be climaxed by the conference to be held at the University in March.
