PAGE FOUR UNIVERSITY DAILY KANSAN, LAWRENCE, KANSAS FRIDAY, NOVEMBER 21, 1947 By COOPER ROLLOW Daily Kansan Sports Editor Glenn Davis, one of Army's famed "Touchdown Twins," will be on hand to see the Kansas-Missouri game tomorrow. Davis was chosen all-American for three consecutive years. He is now stationed at Ft. Riley. *** It's Friday, again, and time for another feverish struggle as we attempt to anticipate tomorrow's football results. Score last week—one fumble in six carries. OKLAHOMA OWER NEBRASKA; The Cornhuskers will try to make a showing comparable to their stand against the Jayhawkers, but Oklahoma power should be too much for them. If the Nebraskans do rise, the Sooners will have their hands full. KANSAS OVER MISSOURI: The Jayhawkers have been holding back all season in preparation for the all-important Mizzoou contest. Barring bad weather and unexpected injuries, the Sauer team should win by one or two touchdowns. ALABAMA OVER LSU: Look for a close game with the bullseye pitching arm of Gilmer the Great meaning the difference. WISCONSIN OVER MINNE SOTA: Basing our predictions solely on the aerial supremacy of the Badgers, we'll take Wisconsin, but with fingers crossed. SOUTHERN CAL OVER U.C.L.A.: The Bruins will be out to mess up the U.S.C. winning streak, but Trojan power looks like a larger swallow than the Ubbens can stomach. Also North Carolina over, Duke, Northe Dame over Tulane, Michigan over Ohio State. KU Runners To NCAA Meet Four Jayhawkers Make Track Trip By PAUL ZEH Bob Karnes, Big Six two-mile champ, will head a delegation of four Kansas men to the N.C.A.A. cross-country championships at East Lansing, Mich., Coach Easton said today. Other entries from the University are Hal Moore, Hal Hinchee, and Bob Morris, each of whom gathered points when Kansas won the conference two-mile title last week. Kansans Enter Singly Since a fifth Kansas man will not be entered, the Kansas men will not run as a K.U. team, but will be entered individually, Coach Easton said. "This is a touch four-mile cross-country meet against the best runners in the nation, and our boys are not prepared for this type of event." Easton said. "We are entering four men to get an idea on how we compare in this event with schools which are emphasizing it." Medals will be given to the first 15 out of a probable field of over 150. Karnes, Jayhawker distance king who is undefeated this year, has a chance to bring back a medal, the coach believes. Drewk Coefd Drake university has won the event for the last three years, under the coaching of Easton. His teams hold the low store record for the meet and set the second low score mark last year. Coach Easton said 25 schools are expected to enter this year's chase over the hills, with Manhattan, Notre Dame, and Drake listed as favorites. Manhattan copped the big LC4-A championship in New York City last week. Illinois, Big Nine champion also will be in the fight for top berths. Drake Defends Title Rice Holds Record Greg Rice, famous U.S. distance runner, holds the four-mile course record of 20:12.9, set in 1939 as a member of the Notre Dame team. The winning time last year was 20:22.9, recorded by Quintin M. Brelsford of Ohio Wesleyan. The Jayhawkers, entered last year as a team, finished in 16th place among team entries, with the Oklahoma Sooners, Big Six distance champs, taking ninth. Yankees Protest Browns' AL Sales New York—(UP)—President Dan Topping of the New York Baseball Yankees, declaring that "we don't want to see the American League become a seven-club circuit," protested to Commissioner A. B. Chandler and league head Will Harridge today, against the St. Louis Brown's wholesale disposal of star players. "Is is the desire and intention of the Yankees to bring to the attention of Harridge and Chandler our feeling of alarm over the action of the St. Louis Browns," Topping said. Topping referred to three deals completed by the Browns this week in which they up six of their topranking ball players to the Boston Red Sox and the Cleveland Indians for an estimated $300,000 or more in cash. In addition, they received players of lesser reputation from both clubs. I-M Grid Finals Sundav The University intramural football championship game between fraternity and independent league winners will be played at 3 p.m. Sunday on the women's field, Jack Greer, secretary of intramurals, said today. Dix Club Wins I-M Independent Crown Dix club defeated the Bounders 7 to 0 last night to win Independent intramural football championship. They will play the winner of tonight's Sigma Chi-Beta Theta Pi game Sunday afternoon in the finals. Dix club's lone score came in the first quarter, when Ashlock passed to Sheeley for the touchdown. Sheeley kicked the extra point. The Bounders threatened only in the second period, when a pass from Hoke to C. Shannahm moved the ball to the Dix 9. Dix club took over the ball after a 15-yard penalty put an end to the Bounder threat. Dix club used a spread formation effectively, sending DiBenedetto out in the flat for a long lateral, after which he fired aerials from the lk position. The second half was a see-saw affair. Both teams made sizable advances, but neither could penetrate the opponent's 10-yard line. Ashlock ran an intercepted pass back 30 yards to set up what might have been a second Dix touchdown in the third quarter. The Dix club advanced to the enemy 15 before losing the ball on downs.
