5 UNIVERSITY DAILY KANSAN, LAWRENCE, KANSAS THURSDAY, NOVEMBER 20, 1947 PAGE EIGHT Friendship Train To Arrive Friday Over $500 contributed by the University students and faculty will be turned into wheat to join the southwest friendship train Friday. The train is carrying food from the people of the southwestern United States to New York, where it will be shipped to Europe. A dedication ceremony will be held in Lawrence at 4 p.m. Friday when the train stops to add the two carloads of wheat contributed by the people of Douglas, Jefferson, Leavenworth, and Franklin counties. Carlson To Speak Gov. Frank Carlson will speak at the ceremony. Chancellor Deane Malott will represent the University. Representing the other schools will be Supt. Solon Ayers of Haskell and Dr. E. L. Novotny, superintendent of the Lawrence public schools. The city schools will be dismissed at 3 p.m. Friday to attend the program. A Haskell student in native Indian costume will present a bag of Indian corn and the president of the Liberty Memorial high school student council will present three bags of wheat. 150 Cars By Friday Night The train will start with 65 cars from Wichita Friday morning. It was estimated that the train would be running in three 50-car sections by the time it reaches Kansas City Friday night. A dedication ceremony in Kansas City at 7 p.m. Friday will include Gov. Frank Carlson; Columnist Drew Pearson, who started the idea; O. L. Gray, general manager of the Santa Fe; and Marcellus M. Murdock, publisher of the Wichita Eagle, who developed the idea of the southwest branch. Radio Series On Air Again "Women of Kansas," presented in co-operation with the Radio Council of Kansas Women, begins its second series of programs over the University of Kansas' station, KFKU tonight at 9:30. The first woman to be featured in the series is Osa Johnson. The program is the dramatic portrayal of her Life as a noted explorer, photographer and author. "women of Kansas" is written and produced by Gene Courtney, college senior from Leavenworth. Mrs. Johnson will be portrayed by Darlene Van Biber. Jack Labawitz will take the part of Martin Johnson. Other members of the K.F.K.U. Players participating in the broadcast are Warren Bowman, Russell Chamberlain; Margaret Gosney; Loran Kennedy; Charles McArthur; James Nelson; Frank Rotman; and Tom Shay. Interview Seniors For Placements Representatives from four different companies will interview February graduates interested in employment today and tomorrow, Frank Finet, head of the Business Placement bureau reported. The interviewers are from the Cargill, Inc., grain exporters and importers, Stannol Oil and Gas company, the Northwestern Mutual Life Insurance company, and Standard Oil company of New Jersey. The Cargill representative will be here today. The Stanolind representative will interview accounting students interested in field or office work tomorrow. The insurance representative will hold interviews to-morrow afternoon. Business students interested in overseas work are urged to meet with the Standard Oil representative Monday. Wins $15 In Theater John W. Dickerson, education junior, won $15 on the "Quiz for Cash" program Monday night at the Jayhawker theater. Campus Briefs John Ise To Begin Lectures John Ise, professor of economics, will open the Sunflower lecture series at 8 tonight in the Sunflower school auditorium. This program will be the first scheduled for the benefit of students and their wives at Sunflower. Other lectures of both an educational and entertainment value, will be scheduled soon, according to L.C. Woodruff, dean of men; however, arrangements are not yet final. The title of Professor Ise's speech is "The American Homo Sapiens" or "Why are Americans Politically Ulterate?" BSA To See Machines The Business School Association will hold a field trip at 4 p.m. today. They will be shown International Business machines in the electric accounting department of the Standard Life Insurance company of Lawrence. Any BSA members who are interested in making the trip should leave their name with Mrs. Schull in the Business School office. The group will meet at 4 p.m. at the Standard Life building at Eighth and Vermont streets. To Interview Engineers Representatives of a textile firm will interview organic, physical, and research analytical chemists, physicists, and mechanical and chemical engineers today, according to the dean of the engineering school. Navy Man Will Interview Students For Supply Corps If you're between the ages of 21 and 23 and interested in the navy, don't forget that a representative of the navy department will hold interviews for students who will be graduated by June for jobs in the supply corps. The meeting will be at 7:30 tonight in 102 Frank Strong hall. 4 University Students Will Address Haskell Hi-Y Four Y.M.C.A. members will speak at 7:30 tonight before members of the Haskell Hi-Y. The students, Robert Chesky, Loren Corliss, Tal Hiebert, and John Eberhardt will speak on "Religion in Life." The K.U. students will tell of their experiences this summer in working with boys' camps and other social projects. Mrs. Rachael Soloveitchik, Russian instructor, told three Russian fables to the Russian club Wednesday. There was group singing accompanied on the violin by Nicholas Gerren, graduate student.
