Narcotics Ring Is Broken
NEW YORK (UPI) — The arrests of four persons—two in New York City and two in Europe—smashed a drug ring which smuggled an estimated 2.5 billion worth of heroin into the United States in the past five years, federal and local officials announced Wednesday.
At a news conference in the federal courthouse in Brooklyn, Neaher announced the opening of a sealed indictment charging three alleged leaders of the ring with smuggling 60 pounds of heroin into the country between June 1969 and February 1970. That amount of heroin is worth an estimated 18 million "on the street."
