KANSAS PAGE THREE Battenfeld, Carruth to Give First Of Five Weekend Dances, Picnics Battenfeld and Carruth hall's will give the first of five parties scheduled for the weekend from 8:30 to 11:30 tonight at Battenfeld hall. The party will be informal and Miss Carlotta Nellis, Mr. and Mrs. J. R. Battenfeld, and Mrs. R. D. Montgomery will be chaperones. Pi Beta Phi will have a forma. dinner dance from 7 to 12 p.m. Saturday. Dinner will be at the chapter house from 7 to 9 p.m., and the dance will be held in the Union building from 9 to 12 p.m. Chaperones for the evening will be Mrs. E. L. Taylor. Mrs. F. A. Benson, Mrs. J. H. Kreamer, and Miss Veta B. Lear. Sigma Kappa's spring formal will be from 9 to 12 p.m. Saturday at the chapter house. Two picnics have also been planned for Saturday. Gamma Phi will have theirs at Lone Star lake, instead of Tonganoxie State lake as was announced yesterday, from 4 to 9 p.m. The picnic given by Wesley Foundation will be from 5:30 to 9 p.m Saturday at Clinton park. German Conversation Group Pickricks in Marvin Grove The German conversational group partook of a picnic supper in Marvin grove last night under the sponsorship of Sarah Peters, German instructor. Following the supper, the members played games and discussed plans for their summer vacations. The committee providing the entertainment included Lucille Paslay and Betty Jennings. Pfc. George White Visits From Station in Texas Reassigning the battle-wounded at Ashburn General hospital in McKinney, Texas, is the duty of Pfc. George White of Miami. Okla., a graduate of the School of Business in 1939, who is visiting friends on the campus today. This work is necessitated by the army's policy of sending men to areas they prefer when they are dismissed from the hospital. White says that the number of men who want to go back to their outfits is surprisingly large, regardless of how severely wounded they were. Senior Women to Meet With Business Administrator Mr. and Mrs. F. J. Moreau will attend the State Bar meeting to be held in Wichita today and Saturday. Mr. Moreau is dean of the School of Law. A representative from the field of business administration will be in the office of Miss Elizabeth Meguiar, advisor of women, tomorrow afternoon to interview seniors who are interested in obtaining a permanent position in this type of work. "These interviews can often be of much help in aiding students obtain positions," said Miss Marie Miller, secretary. Dean Gives Picnic For A Cappella Choir Members of the University A Cappella choir were guests of Dean and Mrs. D. M. Swarthout of the School of Fine Arts at a spring picnic yesterday at Valleyview, 9 Crescent road, home of Dean and Mrs. Swarthout. Other guests at the picnic were Pvt. Tex Fury, Pfc. Charles Kassinger, and Clayton Krehbiel of Oberlin. The latter two are former members of the choir. Following a picnic supper, members of the choir played games and sang Hardy Promoted to Major In Sanitary Corps in India D. Elmo Hardy, '41, has been promoted from the rank of captain to maior. Since Major Hardy has been overseas, he has contributed over 200,000 insect specimens to the University's collection at Snow hall. He is now serving as a wing malariologist with the Sanitary Corps in India. Major Hardy received his doctor of philosophy degree from the University in June, 1941. Engineers Will Be Entertained Members of the engineering faculty and their wives will be guests of Mr. and Mrs. Frank L. Brown and Mr. and Mrs. Don Haines at a garden party from 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday. Alaska Means Peninsula Medical Fraternity Meets Alpha Omega Alpha, national honorary medical fraternity, held a meeting and dinner at the Green Parrot Inn in Kansas City yesterday evening. The School of Medicine at the University of Kansas was represented by Dr. O. O. Stoland, Dr. Parke Woodard, Dr. N. P. Sherwood, and Dr. R. I. Canuteson. Jayhawk Nursery Gets Bibs and Quilts Two dozen baby bibs and four quilts have been added to the bundle be sent to the Jayhawk Nursery in England, according to Mrs. A. J. Mix, chairman of the materials committee of the Jayhawk Nursery project. Various organizations in Lawrence and on the campus have been contributing articles of clothing and quilts, but as yet the amount turned in is not sufficient to be sent across. The four quilts were made by the Gamma Phi Beta sorority, and the Pi Beta Phi sorority has turned in two dozen baby bibs. "We would like to have the other contributions in as soon as possible so we can send the bundle," said Mrs. Mix. The Jayhawk Nursery is supported by the National War Fund and the Community Chest through contributions made by the University and the city of Lawrence. University Women to Give Picnic in Fowler Grove The University Women's Club will give a picnic supper for members, their husbands and families, and unmarried faculty men, on Friday evening, June 2, at 6:00 in Fowler grove, Mrs. C. F. Nelson, chairman of the committee in charge has announced. Reservations should be made by Tuesday evening with Mrs. Hilden Gibson, Mrs. L. L. Waters, Mrs. John Virtue or Mrs. N. W.
