R. Linden of DeSota, took place Saturday, May 13, in the army chapel at Morrison field, West Palm Beach, Fla. Capt. A. T. Lunday, army chaplain, officiated at the ceremony. After a honeymoon in West Palm Beach, the bride will return to the University of Kansas where she will resume her studies as a sophomore in the School of Fine Arts. Lieutenant Linden attended the University of Kansas from 1939-40. He is now stationed with the air transport command and recently returned to this country after 16 months service in India. Dean Stockton in Kansas City Austin Hensley Marriage Announced The marriage of Miss Elizabeth Cady Austin, daughter of Dr. and Mrs. Allen Chariton Austin, to Pfc. Cline Douglas Hensley, Jr., son of Mr. and Mrs. Cline Hensley of Wichita, which took place May 13 in the All Souls Unitarian church in Kansas City, Mo., has been announced. The bride, who was given in marriage by her father, wore a gown of white duchess satin with long train and yoke in the bodice edged in pearls. Her veil was of heirloom Chantilly lace and she carried a shower bouquet of white roses, stephanotis, lillies of the valley, and tulle. Mrs. Stanford Splitter was matron of honor. Pfc. Samuel Iwig, Jr., served as best man. Mrs. Hensley, Jr. is a graduate of the University of Kansas where she was a member of Phi Beta Kappa, honorary scholastic fraternity, and Iota Sigma Pi, honorary chemistry sorority. Mr. Hensley, Jr. is a senior in the School of Medicine, stationed at Bell Memorial hospital. He is a member of Nu Sigma Nu, medical fraternity, and Delta Tau Delta, social fraternity. Following a reception at the home of the bride's brother, the couple left for a short honeymoon. Upon their return, they will live in Kansas City. Double Ring Service Weds Saylor-McLain Phi Chi has announced the marriage of Pfc. Kenneth McLain, son of Mr. and Mrs. Leo McLain of Burton, to Miss Mary Jane Saylor, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John Saylor, also of Burton. The double ring ceremony took place May 13 at the home of the bride's parents. The vows were read by the Rev. Paul G. Brooks of the Methodist church The bride was attended by her sister, Annebelle Saylor. Richard Randall of Burtron was best man. McLain, a sophomore in the School of Medicine, and a member of Phi Chi medical fraternity, will leave Saturday to continue his work in Kansas City. He attended Bethel College in Newton before coming to K.U. two years ago. The traditional feud between the engineers and the law students here on the campus started when the Engineers placed a huge boulder on the campus with the inscription "Eng. '01" on it which the law students promptly removed. Miss Saylor attended Bethel College and taught school in Burrton before her marriage. INS Editor Will Speak How the Feud Started Miss Charlotte Ebener, member of the International News Service bureau in Kansas City, Mo., will speak to members of Theta Sigma Phi, national honorary journalism sorority at a dinner at the Hearth at 6 o'clock tomorrow evening, announced Miss Joy Miller, president of the organization. The annual spring election of club officers for the coming year will also be held at this time, Miss Miller said. Formerly connected with the Chicago branch of the INS, Miss Ebener was transferred to the Kansas City offices several years ago. She now serves as news editor for both incoming and out-going news stories in this area. Following the dinner, a preview showing of "Birth of a Nation," the next motion picture to be sponsored by the Forums board, will be shown at 8 o'clock in Fraser theater. Girl Staters Plan Picnic, Poppy Day Voting to have a picnic and to assist Dorsey-Liberty Unit 10 of the American Legion Auxiliary in Foppy Day sales, members of the Girl State Alumnae Club met Thursday in the Kansas room of the Union building The picnic was scheduled for Tuesday, May 30, and will be held at Potter Lake. A committee to contact women about the picnic and to make arrangements for the affair was appointed by Elizabeth Baker, president. The committee includes: Joanna Wagstaff, chairman, Patty Blank, Beverly Stucker, Marcella Stewart, and Dorothy Wynne. Althea Shuss Vratil and Beverly Frizzell will be in charge of recreation and Emily Hollis will head the refreshment committee. All women who have attended a session of Girls' State in Kansas or in another state are invited to attend the picnic, Miss Baker announced. Each woman is to bring her own lunch, but ice cream will be furnished by the organization. Theta-Phi Delt Engagement Told Kappa Alpha Theta has announced the engagement of Miss Mary Jo Gerdeman, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Alvin Henry Gerdeman of Las Vegas, N. M., to James Allison McClure, United States naval reserve, son of Judge and Mrs. James A. McClure of Topeka. Miss Gerdeman was graduated from the University in 1942. McClure, a member of Phi Delta Theta fraternity, is a student in the School of Medicine. Grad Heads Kansas Bankers A. W. Launderbach of Colby a graduate of the University, was elected president of the Kansas Bankers association at a meeting Thursday, succeeding H. V. Jacobs, Junction City.
