FRIDAY, MARCH 12, 1943 UNIVERSITY DAILY KANSAN, LAWRENCE, KANSAS PAGE THREE Battenfeld Dinner Dance Honors St. Patrick's Day Two scheduled parties, those of the Wesley Foundation and of Battenfeld hall, will constitute the organized social activities for University students this evening; but the promise of another, the dinner-dance of Phi Delta Theta tomorrow evening, will carry the weekend through to a pleasing climax. The buffet dinner-dance given this evening by Battenfeld hall from 7 until 12 o'clock will be held in the hall and will be an informal affair. The festivities will be in honor of St. Patrick's day and the hall will be decorated with the St. Pat motif prevailing. Wesley Foundation has planned a skating party for this evening to be held at the Rollerdrome. The party will begin at 10 o'clock and skating will continue until midnight. Crosby In Accident When Catching Train At Phoenix Station Hollywood, March 11, (INS) — Because he was in a hurry to catch a train, crooner Bing Crosby will spend the next three days in bed, his physicians announced today. Crosby slipped and fell under the wheels of an automobile at Phoenix, Ariz. Wednesday night while attempting to catch a train. X-rays revealed no broken bones, but "he'll be hobbling for some time," doctors said. Searching of Homes Not Yet Sanctioned Washington, March 11, (INE) OPA Chief Prentiss Brown today said that the searching of homes for violators of OPA regulations will not be countenanced except in most flagrant cases such as the use of houses to conceal black market operations and where the full legal procedure of obtaining a search warrant is followed. Brown issued a statement in commenting on reports that racketeers posing as OPA officials had attempted in certain cities to seize stocks of canned foods by intimidating householders and that in one city an OPA agent had entered a home without permission to check upon a supposed failure to declare processed stocks.
