Battenfeld Dinner Dance Honors St. Patrick's Day
Two scheduled parties, those of the Wesley Foundation and of Battenfeld hall, will constitute the organized social activities for University students this evening; but the promise of another, the dinner-dance of Phi Delta Theta tomorrow evening, will carry the weekend through to a pleasing climax.
The buffet dinner-dance given this evening by Battenfeld
hall from 7 until 12 o'clock will be held in the hall and will be an informal affair. The festivities will be in honor of St. Patrick's day and the hall will be decorated with the St. Pat motif prevailing.
Wesley Foundation has planned a skating party for this evening to be held at the Rollerdrome. The party will begin at 10 o'clock and skating will continue until midnight.

Graduates' Engagement Announced

Miss Wandalee Carlson, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Robert O. Carlson of Lawrence, has announced her engagement to Lt. J. H. Kaiser, of Paola.

Miss Carlson received her bachelor of arts in English and journalism from the University last year, and she is now teaching English and journalism in the high school at Smith Center. While in the journalism department Miss Carlson was feature editor and associate editor of the Daily Kansan.
Lt. J. H. Kaiser was graduated from the School of Business in the University three years ago. He received his Army officer's training at Ft. Sill, Okla. and is now stationed at Camp Shelby, Miss.

Audene Fausett To Wed Sunday
The engagement and approaching marriage of Miss Audene Fausett to Pvt. Robert Haskins Miller, son of Mr. and Mrs. George L. Miller of Columbus, Ohio, has been made by Miss Fauset's parents, Mr. and Mrs. Coy O. Fauset of Osawatomie,
The wedding will take place Sunday afternoon at 2:30 o'clock at the Trinity Lutheran church.
Miss Fausett graduated from the University in the School of Fine Arts last June and she is a member of Delta Gamma sorority. Pvt. Miller graduated from the University in the School of Law in January and is now stationed at Ft. Leavenworth. He is a member of Phi Gamma Delta.
Crosby In Accident When Catching Train At Phoenix Station
Hollywood, March 11, (INS) — Because he was in a hurry to catch a train, crooner Bing Crosby will spend the next three days in bed, his physicians announced today.
Crosby slipped and fell under the wheels of an automobile at Phoenix, Ariz. Wednesday night while attempting to catch a train.
X-rays revealed no broken bones, but "he'll be hobbling for some time," doctors said.

Chi Omega sorority has announced the engagement of Miss Jeanne Marie Croson, of Clay Center, to Lt. F. A. Fletcher who is stationed at Camp Beale, Calif.
The pinning took place Wednesday evening with Midge Dickey assisting with the ceremony. Miss Croson received an orchid and Mrs. F. R. Croson and Miss Dickey wore corsages of gardenias.
Miss Croson is a sophomore in the College. Fletcher attended the University of Nebraska and is a member of Pi Kappa Alpha fraternity.

Searching of Homes Not Yet Sanctioned
Washington, March 11, (INE) OPA Chief Prentiss Brown today said that the searching of homes for violators of OPA regulations will not be countenanced except in most flagrant cases such as the use of houses to conceal black market operations and where the full legal procedure of obtaining a search warrant is followed.
Brown issued a statement in commenting on reports that racketeers posing as OPA officials had attempted in certain cities to seize stocks of canned foods by intimidating householders and that in one city an OPA agent had entered a home without permission to check upon a supposed failure to declare processed stocks.

He said: "The OPA has no desire to protect hoarders but at the same time the law and the rights of householders must be respected."
