Edwin F. Price, dean of the School of Religion, "but good has always triumphed in the long run." A student at the University during the first World War, Doctor Price understands the uncertainty that students feel in wartime. Explaining the place and function of religion in time of war, he observed that in such a period of confusion it is the business of the church to help young persons find a basis of thought and faith conducive to creative living. "War tends strongly to create a 'live for today' attitude," he said. "This attitude assumed by some is an entirely superficial one adopted by the individual in his fear and confusion." War Threatens Idealism It is important in such times as these to maintain high idealism and general goodwill toward mankind he warned. In the "harsh realities" of war, angered by the acts of others and spurred on by war propaganda, it is easy to lose respect for the human personality and a fundamental love of mankind. "We must strive for a Christian peace," said Doctor Price. "We won the last war, but because Christian justice lost the peace, we lost that for which the war was avowedly waged." It is Price's belief that, although it may matter now who wins the war, it will make basically little difference if afterward there is not a just peace. An unjust peace can be only temporary. In this period of unrest, he continued, people must "carry on normally," viewing the situation with sanity and poise and maintaining constantly the deep conviction that "in the long run God's good will prove invincible through human spirits living in accord with God's purposes." Should Stand United "This is no time for championing arguments that bitterly divide men" Doctor Price observed. It is time now, he believes, for pacifists and non-pacifists, interventionists and isolationists to stand united, and, crowding out bitterness and personal opinions, work with "uncompromising helpfulness and goodwill." David Gower Hill and Robert Haggart of Lawrence, grandsons of former students of Prof. Olin Templin, for 60 years a member of the staff of the University, notify Mr. and Mrs. Templin of the establishment of the Templin Fellowship fund on Templin's eightieth birthday anniversary. Ultimate goal of the fund in $12,000, a substantial amount of which has already been raised. Among the contributors have been William Allen White and Herbert Hoover. To Discuss War News on KFKU What American newspapers are saying about the war with Germany and Italy will be presented over KFKU at 3 p.m. Friday, by the journalism class in Interpretation of News. It will be the third in a series of Friday broadcasts entitled Editorial Digest. Students who present the editorial comments are Kathryn Bozarth, Charles Pearson, David Whitney, Floyd Decaire, college seniors, and Raymond Derr, graduate. Prof Elmer F. Beth is the moderator. The students read more than 100 newspapers from all sections of the country to discover interpretations and comments upon current affairs which are presented on the editorial pages. Considerable attention is paid to Kansas newspapers. The broadcast on Dec. 26 will be by transcription. The students will be able to tune in at home and hear themselves discussing the ways in which citizens will be directly affected by wartime conditions. The Rock Chalk yell was officially adopted by the University in 1887. 9th & Mass. Phone 516 H.
