Wilkins, professor of voice, left at noon today for New York to sing in the semifinals of the Sherwin-Williams-sponsored "Auditions of the Air" program. The ultimate winner will receive a Metropolitan Opera contract and $1,000. On the way to New York she will stop at Ann Arbor, Mich., Sunday to take part in the singing of the "Messiah" at the annual Christmas festival at the University of Michigan. From Ann Arbor, Mrs. Wilkins will go to New York as a guest of the Sherwin-Williams company. She will compete with two other regional winners in a nation-wide radio program at 4 p.m. (C.S.T.) Sunday afternoon, Dec. 21. The winner of the semi-finals will sing in the final contest to be held in New York next spring. This is Mrs. Wilkins' second trip to New York since she entered the contest in August. She first sang in Kansas City for Maestro Wilfred Pelleter, conductor for the Metropolitan.
