Close on Harris's heels in the mule was Dick Edwards, a lanky sophomore who is a very promising middle distance runner. A star half-miler in high school, Edwards runs both the half-mile and mile in good time. Sophs Doing the Job Classed with Edwards as a coming middle distance runner is Don Thompson, speedy sophomore who was a star at Lawrence High School. Thompson captured the half-mile in both the Kansas State and Nebraska dual meets. His time against the Wildcats was 2:01. Two other sophomores scored victories in the field events against Kansas State. Jack O'Hara made his best vault of the season to set a new meet record in the pole vault of 12 feet 6 1-2 inches. The broad jump was won by J. R. Jones, a new man who is expected to be a real star. He has not hit his stride indoors yet, but showed what he could do when he jumped better than 23 feet as a freshman last spring. A pair of junior letterman won the Jayhawks' other two first places, Darrell Mathes winning the 60-yard dash and Bill Greene taking the 440-yard run. Mathes was very impressive in the short sprint, turning in the fastest time made by a Big Six runner this winter, 6.3. Greene's winning time in the 440 was 53.8 and he added a fast quarter in the mile relay to this later in the meet. Young G.O.P.— (Continued from page one) of officers will take place, Leonard said. Produced by Gene Towne and Graham Baker; Distributed by RKO Radio. 2 . With all boats gone and with no visible chance to escape, the terrified Robinsons manifest such unexpected courage as to bring pride to the heart of William, the father. Unable to help themselves, they face their fate with calm resignation as the sea continues to rise eminently in the cabin of the stricken ship. . . But their guardian angel must have marked the Robinsons for better things, for the storm suddenly subsides. And they discover to their amazement a lush tropical island not far away. Going down into the hold, William finds that the livestock, providentially, is in good condition. Looking about for a means by which to make their escape ashore, William hits upon the idea of building a raft out of barrels. With the help of Jack, Ernest, and Fritz the necessary material is brought out on deck and finally the raft is put together and launched overside. Then begins the back-breaking task of salvaging such of the ship's cargo as will help them to maintain life on this strange island. With a heavy sea still running William and his boys undertake the hazardous work of loading the raft. Only the barest essentials can be taken, and the family suffer soul torment as they abandon many of their personal possessions. (Continued).
