1940. TUESDAY, FEBRUARY 20, 1940. UNIVERSITY DAILY KANSAN, LAWRENCE, KANSAS PAGE SEVEN On the Shin By BUXTON, MEININGER Theta wit: "I'm allergic to formaldehyde," complains Anita Boughton apropos her botany lab. "Life would be swell," remarks Kay Stinson, "if it weren't for potential shotguns." "Gee!" cracks Cecil King, "you'd sure make a rotten cadaver." Which kind, Miss Stinson, the parental or the professorial variety? Both are definitely potential, and both have a mild restraining influence on college life. Women go to the d-n-d-sst extremes to make life unbearable. Louise Troutwein calls "Skid" Skidmore up 10 minutes before a date to ask which dress to wear and then is insulted because he tells her to wear the other one. The Rake Robertson, ye occasional ed of the Soul Owl, still continues to be aces with Chestine Wilson. Aces and eights, with the rest of her retinue holding everything from a full house to a royal flush against him. Robertson is probably the only modern who can take "he who is last shall be first" and work it into an optimistic philosophy. Fred Littoyt informs Clyde Bysom and his Jayhawkers he can't hire them for Varsiers because they won't draw a crowd. That may be true, and if it is, it's true of the other two bands. The Debate Varsity with Clyde Smith playing (and it wasn't the band's fault) laid an egg that cost Littoyt et al better than a -100 or we miss our guess. Kick that price down from six-bits and throw in something besides straight dancing, Litttoy, or you'll be running a nickleodian honkey-tonk on the other side of Massachusetts street come spring. Ain't you heard? Roosevelt and the boys ain't puttin' out nuttin this year. Times are hard. The Delta Chi's are applying a little practical psychology in breaking their coach dog, Pepper, of killing chickens. After a serious discussion of Pepper's possible psychoses PATEE All Shows—15c—Anytime ENDS TONIGHT ENDS TONIGHT Clark Jeanette Spencer GABLE McDONALD TRACY "SAN FRANCISCO" And Tailspin Tommy "DANGER FLIGHT" WEDNESDAY—3 Days 2 — Great Hits — 2 A Mighty Epic of Adventure Beyond the Khyber Pass! "Lady of the Tropics" Professor Boyce Inspects Fredonia Water Plant Prof. Earnest Boyce, director of the water and sewage laboratory, made a final inspection of a new municipal water plant at Fredonia, Wednesday, Feb. 14. The following day Professor Boyce traveled to Columbus to meet with the industrial hygiene engineer of the State Board of Health. A study of the industrial disease, silicosis, is being made in Cherokee county, near Columbus. with Doctor Wheeler it was decided that a little Ancient Mariner treatment was the thing. So now Pepper spends his time tied to a very much alive chicken. The Delta Chi's are confident the treatment will prove satisfactory and their chicken raising neighbors sincerely hope so. Rythmaniacs who click their clackers ecstatically at the end of a dance with Miller hall's Madge Kirby are invariably "squelched" by her "If you're kissing me you're two feet off base." For one brief evening last week the glamour boy of the classified ads, Bill Southern, forsook the spacious quarters of Sara Fair's Lincoln Zephyr for the less roomy but honeym and familiar space in "Bunny" Jenkin's V-8. Big Bill brushed his ingrown knees running back in line, though, to take Miss Fair to the Kappa Sig party Saturday night. Only difference between Bobby Breen and the 12-year-old Bobby Kelly of Lawrence is that the latter doesn't act like someone you'd like to kick in the pants. Bobby Kelly disrupted the print shop yesterday evening singing "Oh, Johnny, Oh!" and "South of the Border." M.C. Edwin Browne is interested in getting the personable little chap an audition with WREN. He's astoundingly good (Bobby, not Browne). Baldwin Names---typewriters We have complete typewriter service.
