X UNIVERSITY DAILY KANSAN, LAWRENCE, KANSAS PAGE FOUR TUESDAY, NOVEMBER 24, 1f31 Basketball Squad Has First Season Practice Five Members of Champion Team of Last Year Retained The basketball squad under the direction of Coach "Prog" Allen held its first regular practice in Riderson gym on Saturday, April 20. "Bill Johnson" were the only lettermen to report, however, Lee Page is expected to report at the close of the game. **Dec. 5** Five members of the championship squad of last year were out for practice. The rest of the squad included Laura Skinner, Tom O'Neill Kenneth Johnson, Blommner Miller and Lawrence Filkin. The new man out of practice was Ben Cribble, S. Chambers, C. Lindley, E Vanek, F. Frichard, R. Roberts, D. Knight and K. Knight, Knight Phil Beatts and Max Colson. Coach Allen is drilling the squadr and fundamentals, stressing the pivot and dribbling. Warming up exercises occupied the rest of the practice session. Coach Allen said that no practice session would be held during the Thanksgiving week, but he and the squab who live in Lawrence. He added that practice would be resumed Monday, Nov. 30 With the opening week of a three-week off, the coach has ordered strenuous sessions next week. He is somewhat handicapped, but the squad is still very busy. Fumble is Play at Detroit Used by Titans Against Loyola Team as Means of Score Detroit—(UP)—Use of the fumble as a scoring play has been introduced by the University of Detroit at Michigan College with Loyola Louis Berg fumbled and the ball was recovered in the Southerners' end zone for a goal. Louis Berg looked like carelessness on Berg's part and a lot of luck on the part of his teammate Beer, in making the re-entry. Haskell Faces St. Xavier Indians Return Home After Victory Over Oglethorpe University Haskell Indians playing on Soldier's field, Chicago, last Saturday defeated the University of Oglethorpe, of Atlanta, Ga. by a score of 31 to 6. This overwhelming victory indicates that a strong Haskell team will face the University of St. Xavier in their annual Thanksgiving day tilt at Cincinnati. The Indians have returned to Lawrence to prepare for the Thanksgiving battle. St. Xavier has had one of the few successful attacks in the history of the Cincinnati school. Official score ratings for the teams playing in the women's intramural volleyball tournament have been compiled in the physical education office. Points were given for the number of women participating as well as for Women's Intramurals L.
