The Human Relations Committee began hearings last spring to investigate why no black women had joined the complaint has ever been filed with the Human Relations Committee or the Office of Affirmative Action and was chairman of the Human Relations Committee. "We wanted to take the corrective approach and raise consciousness within our community." he said that the committee may follow up the issue this year, depending on the sororites' response to the recommendations. ONE RECOMMENDACTION was that information on rush be made available at the Daisy Hill dorms, where more minority students live. Recruitment previously had to be based in dorms outside of (GSP)-Corbin, a predominantly freshman dorm, Jackson said. He said that the turnout at rush meetings on Daisy Hill was poor and that Panhellenic representatives tended to spend less time there when promoting rush. However, Mary Turney, Panhelenic rush chairman, said that the Daisy Hill dorrens received the same attention as GSP-Corbin. The University has a wide side with posters and University Daily Kansan ads. Information meetings are held at the Kansas Union, Oliver, GSP-Corbin or the Daisy Hill dorrens to explain their membership program, she said. THE COMMITTEE recommended that rush information be geared to people who knew little about PANHELLENIC sororities and their mission, because it was that a Kansas advertisement referring to the "PANHELLENic Membership Program" used terms not familiar to most non-Greek women and should be replaced by terms familiar to "sorority" or "social living group." Steph Blackwood, Panhellenic advisor, said that this fall's advertisements for the January 17th rush week would include in- scription the purpose and function of Panhellenic. Another recommendation by the Human Relations Committee was that the current charters and constitutions and bylaws of sororities be placed on file in the Office of the Dean of Women. Blackwood said those charters were already on file. She also said that none of the charters mentioned race as a factor in determining qualifications for membership. NON-COMPLIANCE WITH the committee recommendations would not be cause for dismissal from Panhellenic, she said. The black sororites at KU, Delta Sigma Theta and Alpha Kappa Alpha, have been invited to join Panhellenic as associate members, she said, but they have not yet Bonita Franklin, president of Delta Sigma Theta, said that her sorrow would vote after they received more information about associate membership. Other recommendations by the Human Relations委员会 report include writing a rush information brochure with an effort to dispel myths or false impressions about Activities among Panhellenic Association sororites, predominantly black sororites and other minority social-living groups are encouraged by the committee's report.
