The Faculty Senate is comprised of the chancellor and his administrative assistants, the vice chancellors, the senior deans and every tenured faculty member. Because the Faculty Senate is so large, it meets rarely and votes by mail. This body advises the administrators on matters concerning faculty members. The senate Committee on Technology has requested that no adduction over any faculty member's complaint that ad ministrators have violated his rights under the doctrine of tenure, which guarantees academic freedom. The Faculty Council is composed of the 39 faculty members from the University Council and is a workable version of the Faculty Senate. It meets twice a year, but can be called into special session. The council acts on behalf of the Faculty Senate. Its decisions become law, unless a professor petition the senate to review the council's action. The Faculty Executive Committee (FacEx) consists of the six faculty members of the Senate Executive Committee. THE SHORT-TERM loans are provided by the Kansas University Endowment Association from funds which have been made available through benefit donations. Rogers said emergency loans paid tuition, room and board expenses, and books and supplies costs. Frequently, students can get a loan within a day, he said. "WE DON'T MAKE DAMAGES to students because they don't have enough money to buy a plane ticket or to off somewhere," Rogers said, "but we have made loans to students when I had a death in the family and who need money to get home quickly." Rogers said that KU's emergency loans fund was a source of financial aid not available at many other institutions.
