UNIVERSITY DAILY KANSAN APRIL 25,1919. High School Debaters In Final Clash May 2 Pratt and Neodesha Will Try for State Championship at Meeting Here Pratt and Neodesha are the final contestants for the loving cup offered by the University of Kansas to the winner of the debate in the Kansas High Debating League. These two teams will meet May 2, in Little Theater, according to H. G. Ingham, head of the extension division. "At the beginning of the year, there were seventy-six high schools in the League," said Mr. Ingham. "But the fu reduced that number exactly one-half. The enrollment at first was the largest we have had, and next year should break all records in this regard." "The annual meeting of the representatives of the League will be held the day after the debate, May 3. We will have representatives from almost all the high schools here. Officers will be elected and the question for next year selected." The question used over the state, and the one for debate here, is Resolved: That Capital and Labor Should be Compelled to Settle Their Disputes in Legally Established Courts of Arbitration. Pratt represents the fifth, sixth, seventh and eighth districts, while Neodesha represents the first, second, third and fourth districts. Women's Class Games Scheduled at Gymnasium Women's class basketball games will begin about May 9 said Miss Hazel Pratt, coach of women's athletics, today. The sophomores, juniors and seniors practiced last week but because of hygiene classes freshmen have not begun practice. Next Monday baseball for the freshmen women will begin and they can come out at either 10:30 or 3:30 every Monday, Wednesday and Friday. The sophomore, junior and senior women practice at 4:30 every Monday and Thursday. Any woman, who makes a class team, may play in the series of games and also will receive 50 points, which will go to help make up the required number of points necessary for a sweater and athletic "A." Montgomery The high quality of athletic ability of Kansas athletes is shown by the fact that three Kansas football players were most responsible for the winning of the American Expeditionary Force football title. Coach "Potty" Clark, and former captains Adrian Lindsey and "Scrubby" Laslett were the three players. Word has just been received that Ernst Uhrlaub, one of the famous Uhrlaub basketball trio, has been given a Distinguished Service Cross for bravery. It seems to be a common occurrence for Kansas athletes to receive medals. WHEN YOUR FOLKS COME to see how you are spending your money and have battery trouble, send them to us.
