UNIVERSITY DAILY KANSAN APRIL 24,1919. William Jewell Nine Comes To K. U. Friday To Play Jayhawkers Season Coach Bond Tries Out Players in Preliminary Games of Season The Jayhawk baseball nine will get into action again at a 4'clock tomorrow afternoon on the strong William Jewel nine on McCook Field in the second home game of the season. So far the Jayhawkers have played but two practice games with the Haskell Indians winning one of the games and losing the other. Coach Jay Bond changed his lineup several times against the Haskell Indians because winning the games was not so important as the trying out of all the players on the squad. Coach Bond believes Kansas has one of the very best teams in the Missouri Valley this year and says he will demonstrate this fact when the valley games open. William Jewell has a strong team and a good game is predicted tomor row, as Kansas has a hard hitting nine. This fact was proved against the strong Haskell nine which is considered a major team in baseball. The Indians take to baseball probably better than any other sport, although they are usually strong in football and track.
