Augelli, professor of geography at the University of Maryland, will become professor of geography and chairman of the Latin-American area program in September. He will head the interdepartmental committee for the Latin-American Area and direct the K.U. Center for Latin-American Studies. He will be advising students in the program, planning interdepartmental seminars and overseeing the KU-Costa Rican faculty exchange program. A specialist in Latin America, settlement and colonization and cultural geography, Prof. Augelli will bring wide experience in education and government to the 12-year-old KU program. He received the bachelor of arts degree in 1943 from Clark University, a master of arts from Harvard in 1949 and a doctorate of philosophy from Harvard in 1951. He majored in geography at each school. HE WAS A TEACHING fellow at Harvard in 1947, and was associate professor and head of the department of geography at the University of Puerto Rico from 1948 to 1952. Prof. Augelli is the author of eight encyclopedia articles including the major article on Cuba in the Encyclopedia Britannica. At present he is working on a book, "Geography of Middle America." Also among his publications are studies in "Symposium on the Geography of Puerto Rico," articles in The American Journal of Economics and Sociology, Economic Geography, Journal of Geography, Geographic Review, Annals of the Association of American Geographers and Focus. He has held consultative positions as meteorologist and counter-intelligence officer with the U.S. Army and has been consultant to the U.S.State Department. DUNOON, Scotland —(UPI) About 30 diehard anti-Polaris demonstrators set up a permanent camp on the shores of Holy Loch today to harass America's missile-carrying atomic submarines. Anti-Polaris Group Hangs On The campers erected tents and a 40-foot flagpole above the beach a couple of hundred yards from where the U. S. submarine depot ship Proteus is permanently moored. The atomic submarine George Washington lay alongside the Proteus today preparing for a two-month undersea patrol. The anti-Polaris camp was set up by members of the Direct Action Committee Against Nuclear War, which organized demonstrations against the Proteus last weekend and launched canoes to try to board the ship. They were beaten back by British police and U. S. sailors manning fire hoses.
