Thursday, September 28, 1978 13 Bridge finish date nears University Daily Kansan By BILL HIGGINS Staff Reporter The contractors building the Kansas River Bridge have about 75 working days left to finish the project. The bridge will be built, but he does not think the bridge will be finished within that period. A construction contract between Douglas County and the construction firm, Anderson Construction. Company, Holton, stipulates that any work undertaken in unlitated damages if the project is late. Liquidated damages are charged to the construction company for each day the project is incomplete after the contract's prolimit. Mike Dooley, County engineer and public works director, said yesterday, "I don't think they're going to get it done on time. Anderson could not be reached for comment yesterday, but Eldon Davis, general manager for Anderson Construction, said the company had not received a reply from the county about the last request for more time. Davis said, "I don't know yet whether we'll be done, that the time allowed. We're going to do it." I THINK we have about 80 working days left, but we haven’t received the last report, John Frazier, a managing partner for the county's consultants on the project, Finney and Turnipseed Consulting Engineers, Topeka, said his firm sent 50 reports to the company. "They didn't know how many days were left on the contract. The county asked Anderson in June and in August for a work schedule listing the expected construction completion dates for various phases of the project. Dooley said he had received no reply from Anderson on the requests. Davis said that his company would submit a work report but that a report could not be drawn up until parts of the construction that required working in the river were com- "YOU REALLY can't make one up until you see what the river's going to do," Davis said.
