KU Sound Lab One of the Best The University may well be proud of its new language laboratory which is said to be one of the most modern in the nation. Howard Adams (upper left), superintendent of the lab, can sit in the control booth and operate 21 master recorders to play 21 separate tapes of any language and relay them to any of the 97 individual student recorders. Students record their own speech and compare it with that of the native speaker. Some 500 students use the facilities each week, although all language students are encouraged to do so.
