David Rockhold, Winfield freshman, Wanda Welliever, Oberlin, and Kenneth Ibv, Fort Scott, seniors, tied for second place. The students met an hour before the contest, drew three topics of current events and prepared a speech on one of the three. "The extemporaneous contest was a practice contest for debaters, as this type speech is frequently used in debate," said Wilmer Linkugel, assistant director of debate.
