A Muslim group claimed it "executed" the veteran diplomat because he had ties to the CIA. Officials said security at British diplomatic facilities throughout India and the British Airways office in London was stepped up after the slaying. British diplomatic missions in India have been the target of numerous demonstrations since June when the British Broadcasting Corporation and a controversial interview with a London separatist leader in London.
