University Daily Kansan, November 28, 1984 Page 9 CAMPUS AND AREA ASK director for KU to be chosen By LAURETTA SCHULTZ Staff Reporter A new campus director for the Associated Students of Kansas should be named before finals begin Dec. 12, the chairman of ASK's board of directors said yesterday. Jeff Polack, the chairman and student body vice president, said applications were now being accepted for all Student Senate staff positions. He and William Easley, student body president, will interview campus director candidates next week. "We will conduct interviews to narrow the field," Polack said. "Then we will make our recommendation to Mark Tallman." Talman is the executive director of the ASK and he will choose the new campus director, who is paid about $120 a month. Talman said Monday that he might not have to interview students in order to make a decision. "I may just be able to take Jeff and William's recommendation." he said. "In any case, they will be screening candidates, and I won't have to meet with too many." The KU ASK chapter has been without an official campus director since Chris Edmonds resigned in August. The resignation closely followed a dispute between Carla Vogel, former student body vice president, and Joey "Boog" Higgerer, former student body vice president, and Edmonds. The student body leaders were upset with Edmonds' request for $776.76 to pay expenses for trips to two student-related conventions. Payment for travel expenses to meetings, forums or conventions is prohibited by Student Senate rules, with exceptions sometimes are made. Scott Swenson, Teopka junior and former KUAASK director, was appointed as a temporary replacement for Edmonds Tallman said he will be a new campus director until student elections took place last month. "I wanted to work with the new administration in choosing a replacement," he said. "Obviously, I am interested in filling the position as soon as possible." Sandra Binyon, coordinator of Task Force 84, a voter registration and education program, had taken over many of the campus director's duties in the past few weeks, Polack said. "She has done a lot of the work recently," he said, "But, Scott Swenson is still officially receiving the paycheck." Binyon, Wichita senior, said last week that she was interested in being officially named to the position. "I have expressed an interest in it," she said. "I haven't really sat down and talked to Jeff or William about it." Polack said, however, that he knew of Binyon's interest. "Her application will be considered along with all of the rest of them," he said. "But I do know she wants the position." Polack said a decision would be made as soon as possible.
