troops on the northern part of the island, under Turkish occupation since 1974, have remained confined to their barracks since the coup.
The student also questioned the practicality of the Turkish army.
"Our army consists of men that are common people, 19 to 20 years old," he said. "What happens then the army decides to get tough with them or armists themselves atop people at that I’m probably sympathetic to?"
The student said he would have to wait at least six months before he could judge the effectiveness of the coup.
