6 Friday, January 31, 1975 University Dalfy Kansan KU, K-State to clash in Manhattan The University of Kansas will play arch-rival Kansas State University in an intrastate basketball game at Manhattan Saturday night. Tippoff time for the game which will be 7:35 p.m. in Albergha Field, Houghton. KU's coach Ted Owens said the game would be very important to the Jayhawks' hopes for another Big Eight Conference championship. Owens said K-State had picked up a game on the 'Hawks by winning at Iowa State Wednesday night 108-43. Earlier this season KU beat at Ames by a score of 96-41. Owens said that the only way to pick up a game on the Wildcats would be either to win where they didn't, such as at Nebraska, or to beat KState twice this season. KU and K-State will take identical 11-5 over all records into the contest. Both are 3-8 in finals. The Wildcats will be led by their two high scoring guards, Chuckie Williams and Mike Evans. Wes is K-State's leading scorer at 20.9 points per game, freshman, and averaging 18.2 points per game. Owens said a key to the game would be KU's ability to contain the K-State guards. "We will need to stop their fast break," Owens said. "We know their guards are going to score some but we hope to keep them from hitting at a high percentage." K-State's coach Jack Hartman said he was concerned about KU's height advantage. Owens regards that advantage as much that which KU will need to exploit in order to win. "We hope to take advantage of some of our strength," Owens said. "We hope to do a good job on the boards and get us involved in a guide to take advantage of our height."
