Santa, dolphin star in 'Pimples'

Santa Claus, a dolphin and an adolescent
 Santita Claus find true happiness in "Pimples."
*Pimples* is the first of the William Ingle Theatre Series productions this semester and is named a nameesque of a radio character who learns about a barren island in the middle of the sea.
The play is a humorous look at the follies
of man, nature, or Michael Wise,
that said Tuesday.
Wise said the two-act play, written by David Willis, Wichita graduate student, will be performed at the University of Chicago.
Santa's helicopter flies in. Coconuts fall out of the palm tree. Virginia, the young prostitute, walks on water and the dolphin walks on sand, Wise said.
The play draws together three characters of diverse personalities on a deserted island.
Santa, played by Cliff Rakerd, Lawrence sophomore, is directed to the island for rest and relaxation from his hectic toy factory. He communicates with a radio source named Pimble. Wise said, who spurs him to become friends with Virginia.
Virginia, played by Judi Sterling,
Lawrence freshman, wakes up in a cave on the island with no idea how she got there.
Sophie goes into the city of smog, decay and fifth. Wise said.
The dolphin, played by Jarnie Dibbins,
Lawrenceien good, goes to the island to find
a shipwreck.

lost 29 pounds in six days when he had the infection and he never really regained his weight.
"IT WAS HARD to get to sleep last night," said Zook. "I've been playing organized football for about 10 years, and then it comes down to these two days."
Zook said he'd love to play professional football but wouldn't be crushed if he wasn't drafted. Zook said he would have a place at the college and others in a farming corporation in Laredo.
But Zook, like Towle, Dillon and Lemon, expressed a desire to get the waiting over with. Adams, before he was picked by Cobb, best caught the mood of the situation;
"We have no control over it. When Steve plays football, he has control over the offense because they're coming at him and he knows what to do. And I have control as far as catching the ball or getting open. But we are not that good right here. We have no control over making that phone ring and say, 'we're so-and-so, and we want you.'"
Santa wants to make friends with the dolphin, but the dolphin fears this person who represents man, Wise said. The dolphin was taught to perform for man, he said.
Wills said the first act showed how three characters representing different world views were brought together by forces outside their control.
In the second act, he said, the characters interact each other, and the old worlds drift away.
"It all sounds intellectual, but should be entertained." Willis said.
Wills also received the Schubert

It is also the first time that Wise, Lawrence graduate student, has directed a play for University, and that John Mission, Mission junior, has designed a show. Wills said.
Wills wrote "Poor Baby," which was produced at the University in the fall of 1972. He didn't have much contact with the team until he saw it in performance, he said.
Since the nature of the William Inge Theatre Series is experimental and encourages the producing of original scripts, it gives new playwrights and directors a chance to work on the play together. Wise said.
Wills said the Inge series provided a learning experience in which he could learn to a playweight and not be expected to aim for a Broadwav hit.
The play needed to be made tighter and stronger so Willis three weeks ago cut an hour off the first act, Wise said. The play now runs a little more than two hours, he

Everyone is encouraged to participate in this experience and inquiry as it applies to their own particular interest. Wise said there were technical problems as well as script problems that had been solved.

Coconuts must drop out of the palm tree on cue, he said and 36 coconuts will be needed for the run of the show. A radio is broken up at the end of the play.
Wagner said there were a lot of gimmicks used in the show.

palm tree, he said, and it must be secure
Wise said simple blocking was difficult in the three-quarter round because sight lines might be obscured. As a director, Wise said he often watched that actors don't upstate themselves.
