University Daily Kansan Monday, November 25, 1974 7 Regional delegates meet on community development Twenty regional delegates from Community Design Centers (CDC) will attend a community development symposium today in Madison Marvin Hall at the University of Kansas. The symposium is being hosted by the Architects Community Team (ACT). ACT is a Kansas City, Mo., based CDC created by Charles Kahn, dean of the School of Architecture and Urban Design, as part of the University outreach program. The purpose of CUC is to provide the advising to community organizations, planners and volunteers. You can't afford to hire a private architect. The groups include architects, planners and members of Volunteers In Service to theCUC (VCA) who donate their services to the groups. The purpose of the meeting, according to Rich Eisner, architectural director of ACT, is to set up a network of DCDs throughout the network would coordinate lobbying effort in Washington, D.C., for legislative support of community development projects. Today's meeting will include organizational reports and reports from the American Institute of Planners (AIP) annual meeting in Denver, Colorado. Oct., 27-29. Tuesday's meetings will include talks Members of the dean of women search committee were named last week, Deanell Reece Tacha, chairman of that committee and Susan Ehrlich, secretary yesterday. The committee will be reviewing about 15 applications that the University received after putting an advertisement in a national journal of higher education, she said. She noted that various criteria listed in the advertisement Other search committee members are John Beinser, student body president; Frank Burke, Burge Union director; Faye Dotthem, president of the Commission of the Status of Women; Elaine Esparza, spokesman for MECHA; Phil Frickle, president of the Association of University Dean of Medicine; Grunz, assistant dean of women; Kathy Hoggan, director of the KU Information Center; Wendy Martin Leewood senior, Malcolm Robinson, assistant dean of men, and Beatrice Wright, professor of psychology. The advertisement states that the university is seeking a person holding a doctorate and having substantial administrative experience in student personnel work. Tacha said that person must have experience in organizing and directing a person's ability to plan, organize, implement and evaluate programming to meet the needs of students and the unique needs of women; knowledge of the character, functions and organizational structure of an effective women's resource center; communication skills in speaking and writing abilities; ability to manage women's office in committees, other organizational groups and in individual contacts. After reviewing the applications, the team conducted menditions to the University by the middle of December, Tacha said. Announcement of a new email is expected no later than Jan. 10. Members of the search committee for a new dean at the School of Journalism will be announced within a week, Ambrose Saricks, vice chancellor for academic affairs, said. The committee will be chosen from members of the school's academic affairs office by the School of Journalism, he said. Members will represent both faculty and students of the school. Search committees to offer recommendations for a new dean of women and a new dean for the School of Journalism are still in the organizational stages. An acting dean to replace Edward P. Bassett, present dean, will be appointed by the board of directors Saricks said. Bassett said he would officially leave no dean later than Dec. 1 in order to take over his new job as associate vice chancellor for academic affairs. The permanent school will be named by the board for the beginning of the new fiscal year, Saricks said. Dean searches are beginning to take shape "I must confess, this is the first year I have been confronted by more than one person every month. I've had more money," Weiss said. He said it didn't become clear to him before all the students were committed to a year here that inflation was the program's financing to the extent it has. From Page One John Beinser, student body president, said the proposed change would make the policy equitable, because the University has all finishes all fences from all faculty and students. Study... books and supplies, we received only the undergraduate price, he said. The University retained the right to prosecute violators in the court, but the action was rarely used. Under the new proposal the action would be automatically assigned to faculty members who refused to pay fines at the end of the semester, Frickey said. by various American Institute of Planners officials. Robert Cole, deputy vice president, will speak at the institute, will speak on minority thrusts and the AIP. Bill Parsley, field representative for Housing and Urban Development, will speak on the Community Development Act of 1974. "They are in charge of the program, so they have to meet with the basic regulations and fund funds for us. You cannot leave this unchanged for six years and just hope that nobody will make trouble. If everybody will leave it unchange forever," said Pleban. Coan said he and Weiss would approach the University to find out whether more money was available and if so, bow much. Coan promised to talk to William Argersinger, vice chancellor for graduate studies, and determine whether a meeting with Del Shankel, executive vice chancellor, was warranted. Under the current policy, faculty or staff members who don't pay fines can't buy parking permits during the semester, but parking permits for permit application is taken against them, Frickey said. Frickey asks court action for staff fines The delegates will also spend half a day in Kansas City visiting the various sites of AAA. Under Friederick's proposal, the University would use the court as a final action against faculty fines and would use to pay fines. The policy would provide for payment of faculty fines. The policy would be in keeping with the University's power to wield records of students who don't pay fines. The Parking and Traffic Board is considering a policy change that would provide for prosecution in County Court of faculty and staff members who fail to pay parking fines, according to Phil Frickey, chairman of the board. Frickey said yesterday that he had presented the change for consideration at Friday's meeting of the board, but that the members tabled the measure until he could present a more definite, written proposal. Mr. said the board discussed the policy he said probably would take action at its next meeting, which is scheduled for next week. The University recently discontinued a policy of referring all unpaid traffic fines directly to the County Court. The policy had created a backlog of 2,500 cases in the court.
