Women's athletic fund set up; funds sought for scholarships A scholarship fund for women athletes at the University of Kansas has been established in the name of former KU physical education professor Ruth Hoover, Volleyballers to try for 5th regional win The KU women's volleyball team left yesterday for Lincoln, Neb., to compete in a regional tournament at the University of Nebraska. KU is trying for its fifth consecutive regional championship. The regional tournament is the last stop before the final, and the team will be in England. Oct. 16, from Dec. 12 to 14. KU qualified for the regional tournament based on its sixth consecutive state championship. according to Marian Washington, assistant athletic director. Ruth Hover came to KU in 1921 and retired in 1962 after serving as an instructor, coach and director of the Women's Soccer team. The present women's intramural program. Washington said recently that contributions to the Hoover Fund should be made to the KU Endowment Association for the Ruth Hoover Scholarship Fund. Washington has already made contact with the KU women's sports booster club and alumni organizations that include the department of the physical education department. Washington pointed to other colleges in the nation that could afford to give as many as 30 or 40 scholarships and expressed the hope that KU would soon reach the same level. "We did some things well, but we also found some things we need to work on." Owens said. "We need to work on our teamwork," he added. We rebounding.
