If so, you are normal and you are under stress. Rosa Chang-Liang, teaching assistant in the department of psychology, said recently that stress was caused by a physical or psychological threat to a person, and that there might be physiological or psychological mechanisms of that stress. They could include heat exhaustion, frequent colds, loss of appetite, depression, anxiety and inability to concentrate. Chang-LIang conducted an experiment in spring 1973 to teach students to cope with stress. She found that the two most successful methods of relaxation and progressive relaxation. Applied relaxation is learning to relax in stressful situations, and progressive relaxation is systematically contracting and relaxing all the muscles in one's body. Chang-Liang and Kathy Donovan, teaching assistant in psychology, said there were other ways of coping with stress. One was to take deep breaths and the pressure at the end of the semester. If a person is under stress, he should promote the stress response to impacts and the stress. Chang-Laung said, "We don't care if people have stress." If a person in unable to concentrate, distracted by thoughts of an upcoming party or special event, he should take time to prepare, and then return to studying, she said. Chang-Liang and Donovan suggested setting up contingencies and charts while studying. For example, a student could promise himself he could have a soda only after he had finished reading a chapter. To that end he was given much of much he has accomplished, thus shifting his thoughts from what he has to do, to what he has done. Insinoma is a frequent symptom of stress Chang-Liang said. To sleep better, the student should save his favorite studies till he can learn that he will have no unfinished business for the morning. Finally the person should realize the reality of the situation, and realize the world won't stop spinning and his friends will stop. Because because he scored low on an exam, she said. There are other methods of reducing stress, such as yoga, transcendental meditation and biofeedback, but these require special training, Chang-Liang said. "No matter how strong the stress is, you can still cope with it. Under no circumstances should the stress immobilize you," Chang-Liang said.
