Applications for the positions of editor and business manager of the University Daily Kansan for the spring semester will be accepted until 5 p.m. tomorrow by Dana A. Lelibengood, assistant dean of the School of Journalism, in 105 Flint Hall. Senior recital
Connie Kelley, Lincoln, Neb., senior, will present her senior recital on obee and French horn at 8 p.m. today in Swarthout Recital Hall. The recital will fulfill one of the requirements for her bachelor of music degree. A program will include selections by Alvin Etan, Jan Koester and Borza.
Correction
In yesterday's Kanan report about the committee to investigate allegations of sex discrimination against the department of political science, it was reported that Vicki Hamer, acting director of the Office of Affirmative Action, and the committee would determine what or corrective measures should be taken. The report should have read that they would determine whether measures should be taken.

Volunteer Clearing House is recruiting volunteers for the United Wheels Program, which provides transportation for those who don't have access to public transportation or aren't old enough to use Bus 62 for people over the age of 62. The program will begin when there are more volunteers available and would have a car and may participate either on a regular basis or as a substitute. Spanish film
The film, "Summer Skirt," will be shown at 7:30 p.m. today in the Room Forum of the Kansas Union. Sponsored by the Center of Latin American Studies, the film has Spanish dialogue and English subtitles. It was filmed on the historic Tolore Nilsson, was made in 1961. There is no admission charge.

Budding directors learn through actual production
Experience is a valuable teacher or at a small group of students in the speech and language classroom.
The plays last from 3 to 15 minutes each. They have all been written by young American writers.
Keeler said that the students were directing the plays and that he was overseeing the entire project. The plays are cast and in rehearsal.
About 15 students are enrolled in Play Directing, a class based on learning by doing. The students are directing "Collision Play," which involves play plays, to be performed on Dec. 9 and 10.

Drive extended to reach goal
The class is taught by William Keeler, assistant professor of speech and drama. It is designed to teach the students the basic principles of script analysis, stage aesthetics, creative communication and style. Keeler said.
"Collision Course" is a class project. Fourteen plays have been selected by the class from an anthology of 17 short one-act plays by that title.
The United Fund drive in Lawrence will be extended again in an effort to reach its goal of 189,825, Rodger Hill, chairman, said yesterday.
About $184,078, or 97 per cent of the goal,
has been collected. he said.
The University of Kansas remains about $3,500 short of its goal of $25,900. Henry Snyder, chairman of the KU division, said approximately 20 to 25 per cent of the faculty and employees had donated to the fund.
The drive, schedule to end yesterday, had already been extended two days because many people who were expected to contribute didn't. Hill said.

Jeff Fisher, Shawne Mission Junior, said the class was very rewarding. He said he was learning to ask himself questions about characters and characters and why they acted as they did.
Fisher's play has only one character and there is no dialogue. The character is a very organized person who plans his own suicide. Fisher said that from what he had learned in class he was coming to understand the character's play and how to develop him on stage.
Neither Fischer nor McClure is a directing major but both are interested in the subject. Fischer, a scenic design major, said directing him understand what a lot about his field.
McClure compared this course with learning to fly a plane. It's like learning to fly with a real plane instead of a simulator, he said. The experience of doing "Collision Course" is much better than talking about it in class, he said.
"Collision Course" will be presented at 8 p.m. Dec. 9 and 10 in the William Ingle Experimental Theatre. Tickets are available in the University Theatre box office. They are free to students with a KU ID.
