University Daily Kansan Friday, October 4, 1974 5 Donor spirit overcomes bed shortage, lines Approximately 725 pints of blood were donated at the three-day blood drive, according to Charlie Rhodes, one of the coordinators of the campus drive. Rhodes said the overwhelming student response made it possible to beat the KU players. The original goal for the blood drive was 900 pints but was lowered to 675, he said, because the Wichita Red Cross sent only 18 kuds to KU instead of the expected 24. Rhoads said the lack of beds and the low turnout of Red Cross volunteer nurses from Lawrence caused blood donors to wait several hours. Eleven bicycles reported stolen from Daisy Hill Eleven bicycles were reported stolen Wednesday from the University of Kansas campus. The estimated value of the bicycles was $1,196.46, according to Security and Parking reports. The bicycles were taken from Hashinger and Eldsworth halls. J. J. Wilson, director of housing, said the residence halls had a long standing policy to influence housing decisions. Wilson said the bicycles couldn't block stairways, elevators, hallways or doorways. However, a student may keep his room if his roommate agrees, Wilson said. To protect their bicycles, some students to take their bicycles into University buildings. Richard von Ende, executive secretary to the chancellor, said that he knew of no rule pertaining to keeping bicycles in University buildings. The Parking and Traffic Information and Regulations pamphlet recommends that bicycles be locked in the racks that are provided. But eight of the bicycles that were Wednesday had locks or chains that had been cut. Ten of the bicycles have 10-speed bikes. Interviews Monday - Peat Marwick & Mitchell, Kansas City and Wichita. The schedule of appointments would have caused an overloaded schedule even if there had been 24 beds, he said, so the bed shortage made the problem worse. Hewlett & Lifescience Inc. of Omaha.
