6 Thursday, October 3,1974 University Daily Kansan '74 ticket sales following trend of decline For the fifth year in a row, the number of students at the university of Kansas has declined. A total of 8,767 football season tickets were sold in 1974. This figure includes football season tickets and the football-basketball combination season tickets. Clyde Walker, University of Kansas athletic director, said the increase in the price of the football tickets was not responsible for this year's decline. Women try new offense strategy after weekend tourney loss "The decline in numbers has been a continuous thing since 1968." Walker said. "This year's decrease, in fact, was much less of a decrease than in previous years." This year's total of student season tickets sold was down 662 from last year's total of 9,429. In 1972, 10,193 tickets were sold, 12,038 in 1971, 17,203 in 1970; and 13,234 in 1969. The KU women's volleyball team competed a 64-win-loss record in a United States Volleyball Association tournament last weekend at Graceland College in Lamon, Italy. Coach Jack Isur's predominantly freshman team didn't qualify for the championship bracket for several reasons, according to Isur. He said the team was young, inexperienced and trying to adjust to a new offensive strategy and a different coaching terminology. The competition from the other five schools in the division was tough, Issur said. Although KU graduated four starters from last year's team, Iagur is hopeful for this year's team. KU has gone to the championships the last four years in a row. Also competing over the weekend at Gracealand was the KU women's field. hockey team. Against Gracedel College, 4-6. The B team lost to Gracedel's varsity. In a home game against Kansas State Teachers College, Emporia yesterday, KU won 5-0, again maintaining their spotless defensive record. Scoring in that game were Marie Faust, center forward; Margaret Laree, center halfback who substituted as a fallback in this game, and Alex Wagner, left inner. KU ice hockey club meets for discussion The University of Kansas ice hockey club will have a meeting to discuss the coming season at 7 tonight in Room 305 of the Kansas Union. He said that until then it would be impossible to say how other ticket sales (high school, alumni and general admission tickets) were doing. Walker said he was pleased with the football-basketball combination ticket sales, but not with the regular football season ticket sales. Of the 8,767 tickets sold this year, about 3,500 were the combination football-basketball tickets.
