Corporation renovates old fraternity house The old Theta Chi fraternity house on the hill at 9th and Emery streets is being restored to house the Toolmax Corporation. Toolmax, now in Wichita, has world marketing rights for a new tool that will be marketed next month. Buzz Deitchman, representative and legal counsel, said yesterday. He said the tool had been tied up in patent suits until recently. The corporation already has spent about $30,000 and plans to spend about $50,000 more to restore the 15,000 square feet of house the old fraternity house, Dedham man. He said about 5,000 square feet would be used for marketing presentations and board meetings. A small audio-visual theater and a large projection screen on the bar will up take of this space, he said. "The board room will be elaborately finished with paneling like that in the Grauman's Chinese Theater (now Mann's Chinese Theater) in Los Angeles; a fireplace and two pewter chandeliers worth $300 a piece," Dietchman said. The rest of the building will be used for offices and two apartments for executives "Every secretary, executive, etc. will have his own personal office," Delchman said. "This is unique to the Lawrence area." Eventually there will be a putting course on the roof, he said. Detchman said one of the first things Toolmax did after purchasing the old fraternity house last April was to check out honor that the building was sliding off the wall. A structural engineer from Kansas City, Mo., inspected the building and found the leak. Tomorrow polls will be open in Ellsworth and Sellars halls from 3 to 6 p.m.; Templel Hall from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m, and Signa Haplon Exalion fraternity from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Deitchman said Toolmax had hired a private security guard to stay in the building at night. The police also parole him, though there is because of a recent increase in vandalism. Student I.D. and registration card are required. "The building was built by a man that built silos throughout the area," Delchman said. "It's made of eight-inch thick cement walls, and there isn't a crack in them.
