Before the game, the team honored seniors Natalie Hoogveld, Melanie Schroeder and Hilla Rantala, in their final home game as Jayhawks. The Kansas soccer team continued its impressive winning streak Friday with a 2-0 victory over Missouri at Super Target Field. Rantala, in their final home game, Rantala scored the second goal in the 80th minute, which put the nail in the 'Tigers' coffin. It also clinched a fourth-place Big 12 finish for the surging Jayhawks, the highest ever in program history. It was Kansas's fourth shutout in a row. "It's a credit really to the whole team, especially the defense," coach Mark Francis said. "Defensively, we're not giving teams the chances." Freshman goalkeeper Meghan Miller saved six shots and recorded her seventh shutout of the season. The Jayhawks (13-5 overall, 7-3 in Big 12 Conference play) secured a fourth seed for this week's Big 12 tournament in San Antonio. With the loss, the Tigers (11-7, 5-5) settle for a fifth seed, which means a rematch between the two is set for Thursday. The Kansas attack started in the 21st minute. Freshman midfielder Amy Geha sent a pass to Hoogveld. Hoogveld then lofted a cross into the box, and freshman forward Monica Brothers headed it off the post and in. It was Brothers' ninth goal of the season. "Monica just has the knack of being in the right place at the right time," Francis said. "Her athleticism got her there, and she threw her head at it and got on the end of it. It was a very tough angle, too." got on the end of the line. After 60 minutes filled with missed opportunities by both teams, the Jayhawks broke the game open when Brothers found Rantala staring at an open shot. Rantala punched it past Tiger goalkeeper Megan Duncan, putting Kansas up 2-0. Rantala's 10th goal of the season all but ended Missouri's hopes of an upset. The Tigers now go into the tournament underdogged against a hot Jayhawk squad. Francis said his team knew just how important winning was from here on out. "We had a great crowd today." Rantala said. Teams don't like to come here, and we were ready to play." "In the postseason, it's a different season," he said. "If you lose, you're done." The game hit a season-high attendance of 411. The second-highest on Aug. 31 against North Texas, when 325 fans were present.
