A Cuban official said his country would have purchased about $175 million in goods from U.S. producers by the year's end. Lt. Gov. No.2 United Airlines files for bankruptcy protection NATION CHICAGO United Airlines filed the biggest bankruptcy in aviation history yesterday, vowing to keep its jets flying while it tries to straighten out a business that is hemorrhaging as much as $22 million a day. The world's No. 2 airline is certain to cut employee wages, reduce flights and eliminate unprofitable routes during a Chapter 11 reorganization that United chief executive Glenn Tilton expects to last about 18 months. WORLD U.S. receives Iraq files; begins its own analysis UNITED NATIONS — The United States received a copy yesterday of Saddam Hussein's massive arms declaration as inspectors began combing the dossier for clues about whether Iraq was free of weapons of mass destruction. Reverasing an earlier decision, the U.N.Security Council agreed late Sunday to give the United States and the four other permanent council members — Britain, France, Russia and China — full copies of the 12,000-page declaration. The council's 10, non-permanent members, including Syria, will only see a censored version of the document once weapons inspectors have gone through the report and gleaned it of sensitive material — including possible instructions on bomb-making. U. N. Secretary-General Kofi Annan said yesterday that process would take some time and he called on Washington and others to be patient with the inspectors. "The inspectors will have to review them, analyze them and report to the council, and I think that's going to take a while," he said.
