"You can spend about five hours a night waiting for people to show up." Sigma Phi Epsilon. He would also make three separate deliveries to the Alpha Kappa Lambda house. He said delivering to residence halls slowed him down. Continued from Page 7. After delivering for a month, he had only bean pulled over once because of brake light failure. Jones said he had seen other delivery people get pulled over, and he considered himself lucky. Speed is of the essence for pizza deliverers. Jones said he did not mind delivering to fraternity members because they sometimes gave him a tip. He said he enjoyed delivering to fraternities. In fact, they were some of his best customers. After a month of delivering pizzas, Jones said he had memorized addresses for most of the houses. "A lot of times, college students don't tip at all." Jones said. "Drunk people tip, but other than that, 50 cents on a $5.50 order is a good tip. If we didn't deliver, you'd have to get it yourself." Tonight Jones would deliver to several different fraternities, including Theta Chi and That night Jones drove more than 125 miles delivering pizzas in Lawrence. He said he didn't mind—except on Friday mornings, when he had to wake up for his 8:30 a.m. Spanish class after working until 3:30 a.m. At 2:30 a.m., with another half hour of delivering to go, Jones packed another run of four pizzas. He did not know how many runs he had made on his shift, he lost count. But he did not mind. "That's all we do — drive around, smoke, listen to the radio and drink pop," Jones said. "It's a life."
