To help finance improvement projects in Lawrence, city commissioners took on more than $2 million in debt through the sale of short-term and long-term obligation bonds at yesterday's commission meeting. Kansan staff report City Commission issues bonds to pay for improvements The city issues bonds to pay for projects such as street improvements and help developers pay for improvements they want to make to their property. The city loans the money to developers who then pay it back with interest.
