7 State/Local Three local residents injured during holiday From staff and wire reports Three local people were treated for minor injuries at Lawrence Memorial Hospital for injuries sustained in incidents during the Thanksgiving holiday. Eric Nitcher, Lawrence, was injured early Wednesday morning after the convertible he was driving struck the rear of a parked van in the 2700 block of University Drive, Lawrence police reported. He was treated and released. According to police reports, Nitcher had to be cut out of the convertible, while his passenger, Terry Pljut, Lawrence, was able to remove himself. Nitcher was cited for operating under the influence and not carrying proof of insurance. Amanda Day, Lawrence, was struck late Friday on Tennessee Street by a car driven by Ann E. Weber, Lawrence. Day suffered a broken leg and a cut on her head. She was treated and released. Sallie B. Norton, Olathe junior, was a passenger in a vehicle driven by Todd Polson, Lawrence, when it and another car collided Tuesday afternoon at the corner of 21st and Iowa streets. Norton was treated and released. Darren Waisner, Route 5, the driver of the other car, was cited for failure to yield the right of way. Seven people were killed in traffic accidents in Kansas. The Kansas Highway Patrol said Christine Guevara, 32, died shortly before 2 a.m. when her car and a car she collided as she turned onto U.S. 50.
