KU swim teams lose dual meets
Both the Kansas men's and women's swimming teams lost Saturday in dual meets against Arkansas at Fayetteville.
The men's team lost 57-56,and the women's team lost 109-27.
The Jayhawk men defeated Arkansas in both the 400-meter freestyle and 400-meter medley relay teams. Andrew Billings, John Easton, Chris Cook and Glenn Trammel were on the 400-meter freestyle relay, and Billings, Trammel, Kevin Toller and Dan Mendahl were on the 400-meter medley relay.
Individual event winners for Kansas were: Easton, 200-meter freestyle; Dave Nesmith, 200-meter breaststroke; and Bobby Kelley, 400-meter individual medley.
For the Kansas women's team, Barbara Ann Smith won the 800 and 400-meter freestyle, and diver Lori Spurry won the one-detree three-meter diving. Blanca Castillo won the 200-meter butterfly and Erin Easton won the 200-meter breaststroke.
The next meet for the Jayhawk men's and women's teams is the Championship Dual Invitational Dec. 3 in Tuscaloosa, Ala.
Bruce files lawsuit against Ohio State
COLUMBUS, Ohio — Earle Bruce has sued Ohio State and its president, Edward Jennings, mainly because of the anguish his family felt following his firing as football coach, Bruce's attorney said yesterday.
Later yesterday, Jennings and the chairman of the university's
board of trustees said that they stood by their decision to dismiss Bruce.
Bruce filed a lawsuit Friday that claimed he was wrongly dismissed and that Jennings slandered him in statements to the media. The suit seeks $7.44 million in damages.
