16 Friday, November 13, 1987 / University Daily Kansan Sports Women netters travel to Wichita By a Kansan reporter The Kansas women's tennis team will be competing in the Intercollegiate Tennis Coaches of America Central Region qualifier at the Wichita Racquet Club this weekend. The singles finalists and the doubles champions will automatically qualify for the ITCA National Indoor tournament, which is scheduled for Feb. 4-7 in Minneapolis. Brigham Young and Oklahoma State are the region's top contenders. Both teams were among the top 10 women's teams in the nation last year, and Oklahoma State won every singles and doubles title at the Big Eight Conference championships last season. Seniors Tracy Treps and Marie Hibbard, juniors Susie Berglund and Jeanette Jonsson and freshmen Stacy Stotts and Michele Balsom will make the trip for the Javhawks. "With Treps and Jonsson at the top of our lineup, we can be as good as any team," said Kansas tennis coach Scott Perelman. "They have both matured and are playing well. This will be a good experience for our freshmen, to see some of the top competition and see how far they have to go." Cardinals pick up former KU receiver Sports Briefs The St. Louis Cardinals signed cornerback Johnny Holloway yesterday. Holloway played wide receiver at Kansas during the 1984 and 1985 seasons. During his junior year in 1985, Holloway caught 30 passes for 358 yards and one touchdown. Holloway chose not to return for his senior season and instead played for the Dallas Cowboys in 1986 before being cut. The Minnesota Vikings announced yesterday that they had cut former Jayhawk punter Bucky Scribner. While at Kansas, Scribner set a school record by averaging 44.6 yards a kick for his career. He played at Kansas from 1980 to 1982. KU teams to swim at Louisiana State The Kansas men's and women's swimming teams will swim against Louisiana State's teams at 1 p.m. tomorrow in Baton Rouge, La. The women's team has a 1-1 dual meet record, and the men's team has won its only dual meet.
