Wednesday afternoon, 18 classes were listed as closed, including three communications courses, two psychology courses, two business courses and two economics courses, all at the junior-senior level. Four graduate-level courses also were closed. The enrollment center is running smoothly for now after four days of enrollment for the spring semester, a KU official said yesterday. Finding classes might be harder at the end of the period, Thompson said, but he was optimistic for people who enrolled then. He said it was possible for students to walk in on the last day and still get all the classes they wanted. Checking the list of closed courses posted outside the enrollment center might not help students who enroll in a foreign language or most freshestly sophomores. No departments have had problems so far because of classes closing, he said. But the official, Brower Burchill, associate vice chancellor for academic affairs, said. "It's still too early to tell. We don't know what it might be like near the end of the semester." Thompson said that as the enrollment period went on, it would take longer for each student to enroll because more classes would be closed. Enrollment appointments are spaced out toward the end of that period to keep lines moving quickly, he said.
