Schoewe Services Set Funeral services for Walter H. Schoewe, associate professor of geology emeritus at KU, will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday in the First Presbyterian Church in Lawrence. Schoewe, 74, died Tuesday following an extended illness. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. He was also editor of the Transactions of the Kansas Academy of Science. More than half of his professional life was devoted to teaching and research at KU. From 1920 until his retirement in 1961, Dr. Schoewe taught courses in geology and geography. From 1930 to 1961, he was actively engaged in geologic research for the Survey and for 11 years was in charge of the Survey's Division of Mineral Economics and Coal. Until his illness, he worked daily in his office at the Geological Survey. SCHOEWE HELD A.B. and M.S. degrees in geology and geography from the University of Wisconsin, a Ph.D. from the University of Iowa, and an M.A. from Harvard. Before coming to KU, he worked briefly as a topographer for the U.S. Geological Survey and as an instructor in geology at the University of Iowa and Colorado School of Mines. He was a life fellow of the Geological Society of America and a fellow of the American Association of Petroleum Geologists and of the American Association for the Advancement of Science. A life member of the Kansas Academy of Science, he was president in 1938. He also belonged to the Grad Tests ToBeHeld Saturday "Graduate Record Examinations" (GRE) will be given on Saturday in the Big Eight Room of the Kansas Union. These tests put out by the National Program for Graduate School Selection are administered by the Guidance Bureau.
