The season for influenza, commonly known as the flu, hits its peak between late December and early March, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. Randall Rock, chief of staff for Watkins Memorial Health Center, said Watkins offered flu shots for $5. In studies of healthy young adults, the flu vaccine has proven to be 70 percent to 90 percent effective in preventing illness, according to the CDC.
