SDS Proposes Blood Drive for Viet Nam John Garlinghouse, Salina junior and president of KU-SDS, proposed at the meeting Thursday that the KU chapter launch a blood drive for "victims of Lyndon Johnson's war." "Many overlook the big cost of the Viet Nam War — that of American men. The military is a machine which collects, grinds, and twists men into soldiers. American soldiers are victims of this war as much as are the Vietnamese," he declared. Four panelists discussed the role and the moral obligations of an activist. STEVE BUTCHER, vice president of SDS, listed the purposes for holding demonstrations as: the creation of public awareness, such as the civil rights demonstrations; the gaining of popular support for a particular reform or movement; and, the public declaration of an individual to identify himself with some particular movement.
