+ KANSAN.COM SPORTS 5 Chiefs extend coach Reid's contract, fire GM Dorsey ▶ WESLEY DOTSON @WesDotsonUDK the whirlwind offseason continues for the Kansas City Chiefs. After signing coach Andy Reid to a contract extension on Thursday, the Chiefs decided to fire general manager John Dorsey a half-hour later. Reid, 59, was entering the final year of a five-year deal he signed in 2013. In four seasons, he has led the Chiefs to a 64-43 record, including an AFC West title last season. As for Dorsey, Chiefs chairman and CEO Clark Hunt said he decided not to extend Dorsey's contract beyond the 2017 season. "I notified John that we would not be extending his contract beyond the 2017 season, and after consideration, we felt it was in his best interests and the best interests of the team to part ways now," Hunt said in a statement. However, ESPN's Adam Schefter said in a tweet that the decision was solely made by the Chiefs. Last week, Dorsey infamously released wide receiver Jeremy Maclin — a favorite of Reid's — on Friday via voicemail mail while Maclin was flying to former teammate Fletcher Cox's football camp. Maclin signed with the Baltimore Ravens on a two-year deal the following Monday. Dorsey is the third general manager to be fired this offseason, following Washington's Scot McCloughan and the Buffalo Bills' Doug Whaley.
