AWS Fashion Board Suggests Warm Togs By Nan Harrington AWS Fashion Board Finals will soon be over and then arrives Semester Break and ski trips! Now is the time to start planning a smart and warm wardrobe for your skiing excursions. Even if you are not among the more fortunate who will be living on the slopes of Colorado or Wisconsin, you can enjoy "Ski-Burbia" wherever there is snow on the ground or a blustery wind. Let's begin from the inside out. Where there is skiing there is snow, and where there is snow there is cold. We suggest a long-sleeved turtleneck T shirt and tights as a substitute for the conventional long underwear. You will need two pairs of socks; smoothly knit wool ones inside, heavy raw wool ones outside. Two lightweight sweaters are much warmer than one heavy sweater, and one can be shed if it gets too warm. Ski pants must fit properly to look nice and to be comfortable. They should be taut without being tight. The instep strap, or stirrup, should not pull, or it will cut painfully after an hour of skiing. To top off your ski outfit, you will need one of the many smartly styled parkas. There are three rules to follow when choosing a comfortable and practical parka; it must be lightweight, wind-proof, and snow-resistant. For added convenience, the pockets of your parka should have zippers with tabs that are large enough to grasp with gloved hands. Today these jackets come in many styles and fabrics. You can choose among parkas with side or front zippers, shiny shirt parkas, or diamond-quilted sweater parkas. All of these come in a variety of fabrics such as the machine washable Helenca or the new Chemstrand nylon taffeta with Kodel fiber-fill. Accessories for good looks should include a woolly hat that covers your ears and stays out, rugged leather or leather palmed gloves with attached or separate wool inner linings for warmth, and "outer spaces" goggles. with plastic lenses. Just a hint to keep sunglasses from fogging—wipe them with antifreeze or spray defroster, available at any garage. FACING WINTER weather on ski slopes or on campus also calls for special skin care. The new medicated and moisturized lip-stick is a must. Soft, cleansing towellettes, saturated with lotion, will aid in removing protective skin oils and make-up. When you are off the slopes and back to campus, sportsclothes should vary little and include many styles and fabrics of stretch pants, sweaters and ski jackets. Stretch pants featuring vertical, horizontal, or two-way stretch fit different purposes and different figures. The classic wool slacks and bulky sweaters of fur blends, mohair, or wool are always an essential part of informal attire. As cold winter blasts give way to warmer winds, the quilted ski jacket can be replaced by the nylon wind breaker. With just these few informal essentials, you will be ready to meet cold, winter weather wherever you may be during Semester Break. Hose Styles Clothe Legs For Winter Bv Greg Swartz While the present trend toward shorter skirts is making it as hard as ever for the KU male to study for finals, the girls are just covering up their legs again. First it was the bobby sock, then it was the knee sock and now it's the "whole-leg" sock. And it is ruining the whole thing. THESE NEW socks, technically called textured hose, come in all types of materials, shapes, designs, and thicknesses. Some are striped, some plaid, others plain, and the wilder ones are flowered. The suggestive ones are made of lace. Anyone taking a look at legs (beaver shooting that is) in Strong basement, the Union, or between classes has noticed what these socks do to legs. These new socks begin where knee socks left off. Continuing above the knees, they give an over-all effect to the legs. THE HEAVY WOOL socks make heavy legs look even heavier, and when the socks are of the wild type the exaggeration could easily deceive one into believing that only a pair of legs is walking across the campus. Perhaps a loud dress or sweater would offset this exaggeration. The nylon type make thin legs look thinner, again creating an illusion. This time, however, the legs might be missed making the girl look like she is floating on air. For the girl who wants to improve her legs most effectively, it is obvious that she should select a pair of socks which adds or subtracts to or from her own situation. IN DECIDING whether to wear this type of socks, the girl should take into consideration the male comments leveled against them. One male, noticing the ribbed weaves, said there was a varicose look on campus. This person immediately contacted the hospital only to find that the vericose look was caused by these new fangled socks. On the other side, of course, is the female point of view. They say this type of sock is extremely warm. Comfort from the bitter Kansas winter wind is the important thing. Cheats Found At AF Academy COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. — (UPI) — Silence was conspicuous on the sloping grounds of the Air Force Academy today in the wake of the resignations of four cadets following an investigation of cheating. The four who resigned voluntarily from the United States' newest military school were not identified. Officials indicated more students might be involved.
