Page 8 University Daily Kansan Wednesday, Jan. 20, 1965 Kansas Rivals Clash Tonight Tonight's Big Eight headliner at Manhattan between KU and Kansas State is almost a "must" game for both teams if they are to remain title contenders. There is a little more pressure on the host Wildcats, who have lost two of their three conference games. Kansas State enters the game after falling to Missouri, 80-68, last Saturday. The Jayhawks are 3-1 in Big Eight play, second to Oklahoma State's league-leading 3-0 mark. KU picked up its eighth victory in the last nine games by downing Iowa State, 72-60, at Ames Saturday. THE TWO KANSAS rivals will tip off at 7:35 p.m. before a capacity crowd and a six-station television network audience. Channel 13 will serve the Lawrence area. This will be the second meeting this season between the two arch-rivals. The Jayhawks nipped Kansas State, 54-52, in a semifinal battle at Kansas City en route to the Big Eight tournament title. Roy Smith of the Wildcats was the game's high score with 20 points. KANSAS STATE Coach Tex Winter, renowned for getting the most out of his players, is far from satisfied with his team's play. "We still aren't reacting," Winter said. "We're just standing around on rebound situations and certainly not coming up with our share of the loose balls." Kansas State controlled only one jump ball tip against the much shorter Tigers, and were outrebounded for the third straight game, 50-46. PROVIDING an added attraction to tonight's Big Eight classic will be a preliminary game featuring the nation's defending junior college champions from Dodge City. They will take on Kansas State's undefeated freshman squad at 5:10 p.m. Dodge City has the same five starters that posted a 29-2 record last year in winning the national crown, and is presently ranked No. 1 with a 13-0 record. Kansas State starters include 6-7 Earl Seyfert, 6-8 Mike Williams and 6-5 Tom Harvey. Dodge City does not have a starter over 6-4. Athletics Trade Colavito CLEVELAND—(UPI)—The Cleveland Indians today announced the return of Rocky Colavito in a three-way deal with the Chicago White Sox and the Kansas City Athletics. The Tribe will get Colavito from Kansas City and Camilo Carreon from the White Sox. Catcher John Romano, pitcher Tommy John and outfielder Tommie Aige go to the White Sox. Chicago will send outfielders Mike Herschberger and Jim Landis to Kansas City, along with a pitcher to be named at a later date. Liedtke blew a layup in the closing seconds of regulation play Tuesday night but sunk a 15-foot jump shot in the final five seconds of the third overtime to give Louisville an 82-80 victory over Missouri Valley Conference foe Cincinnati at Louisville. Louisville Coach Peck Hickman has his 400th basketball victory today, but it took a triple overtime in which sophomore Joe Liedtke traded his goat's horns for a hero's laurel wreath. Regulation time ended with each team having 69 points. Neither team scored in the first five-minute overtime period, and each scored seven in the second overtime to remain deadlocked at 76. Then came Liedtke's shot from the corner and Hickman had victory no. 400. SOMERSET MADE 18 of 23 field goal attempts and hit all six of his free throws. Depaul led at the half 39-34 and did not lose its lead until Somerset put the Dukes ahead 56-55 with 8:27 left in the game. Duquesne was never behind after that.
