Civilians caught in ambush Daily Kansan Thursday, October 27, 1966 SAIGON - (UPI) Americans setting an ambush for the Viet Cong eight miles north of Saigon opened fire on a group of friendly Vietnamese by mistake today. Eight civilians including women and children were killed and seven were wounded. The American spokesman said the group of civilians was moving about well before the night's curfew was over. They said the civilians made no noise, carried no lights—just like the Viet Cong.
