Student Organization Consultants, a group of about 15 students, will consult student organizations at the University of Arizona and Lara Adams, president of the group. She said the group would act as a think tank for student organizations that had difficulty with membership, management and organizational skills. "We don't tell a group what to do." School of Business to receive donation Accounting firm gives $200,000 for faculty fellowship, student computer room By Mauricio Rios Kansan staff writer The Arthur Andersen Worldwide Organization will donate more than $200,000 to the KU School of Business this school year. The gift is aimed at supporting a faculty fellowship and at improving the school's computing services, said Joe Bauman, dean of business. Bauman said the gift would endow the Andersen Faculty Fellowship and upgrade the Wagnon Student Computing Room in Summerfield Hall. The firm's donations have increased since the beginning of Campaign Kansas, KU's fund-raising effort is raised $237.3 million in three years. "The gift helps both faculty and students." Baumann said. The Andersen Faculty Fellowship is important for the accounting process. "It adds a supplemental salary to retainten faculty," Bauman said. "Many of the accounting firms are helpful to us," he said. "They need our graduates." The company is one of the nation's largest certified public accounting firms, providing audit, tax and business advisory services. William Patterson, partner in the firm's Kansas City, Mo., office, said the Chicago-based firm had helped the University for at least 28 years. Patterson, a 1964 KU graduate, said the firm hired KU students every year. "We have made it an effort internally to support the University," he said. Allen Ford, a professor of business who has been the Arthur Andersen Faculty Fellow at KU since 1981, said he was grateful to recruit KU's best accounting students. "They want to see that we have the best facilities and good faculty," he said. "They want to see the University prosper." Ford said that as a fellow, he received money to help cover travel expenses when he was doing research.
