Williams to reload with young players

Men's basketball coach says experience could decide conference championship
For the first time in basketball coach Roy Williams' career at Kansas, the season started without Mark Randall and Mike Maddox.

"It's human nature, after the success we had, that people will rate us higher." Williams said. "They haven't seen our first three practices."
Williams will have to mesh a group of seasoned returnees with a highly
touted freshmen class and two transfers.
Returning to the team are starters Alonzo Jamison and Adonis Jordan. The Jayhawks will also return frontline richer Richard Scott, David Johanbing and Macolm Nash and guards Steve Woodberry and Patrick Richey.
"Our leaders so far have been the underclassmen," Williams said. "Rex Walters, Steve Woodberry and Richard Scott are the three that performed better than anyone in the preseason conditioning."
Rex Walters and Eric Pauley will play this season after transferring to Kansas.
At Friday's "Late Night with Roy Williams," Jayhawk fans got their first look at the newcomers, including Kristen Olsen, Greg Ostertag and Greg Gurley.
However, Kansas will be without senior Sean Tunstall, who was suspended from the team for the fall semester for violating unspecified team rules. Freshmen Calvin Reyford and Sean Pearson will not play this year because of their failure to meet

Last year the Jayhawks reached the Final Four before falling to Duke in the national championship game, but 'tall' in the past, Williams said.
"You can't live on last year's team or last year's success," he said.
"We'll be back in the Final Four," he said. "Basically all you have to do is listen to Coach Williams. He'll get us there."

Williams said Missouri, Oklahoma and Oklahoma State would return experienced players that would be a factor in the Big Eight Conference race.
Williams, however, did not count out his Jayhawks.
